TURBOCHARGER CONTROL WITH OVERSPEED PROTECTION
Systems and methods for controlling turbocharger operation by maintaining a virtual turbocharger speed calculation using airflow parameters in the context of an engine. An example uses a turbocharger speed estimator, an energy observer, and an energy controller. Optimization of turbocharger speed control, including avoidance of overspeed, while reducing wastegate actuation, can be achieved using a predictive control algorithm.

Method For Controlling The Actuator Of The Wastegate Of A Turbocharger Of A Motor Vehicle
The disclosure relates to internal combustion engines. The teachings thereof may be embodied in methods for controlling the actuator of the wastegate of an exhaust gas turbocharger of a motor vehicle. A method for controlling an actuator of the wastegate of an exhaust gas turbocharger of a motor vehicle may include: characterizing the wastegate in a model as a series connection of two throttle points; and actuating the wastegate based on the model.
On-line adaptive PID control of air charging system
An internal combustion engine includes an air charging system. A method to control the air charging system includes providing a desired operating target command for the air charging system, and monitoring operating parameters of the air charging system. An error between the desired operating target command for the air charging system and the corresponding one of said operating parameters of the air charging system is determined, and scheduled PID gains are determined based on the error utilizing a PID controller. An adaptive algorithm is applied to modify the scheduled PID gains, and a system control command for the air charging system is determined based upon the modified scheduled PID gains. The air charging system is controlled based upon the system control command for the air charging system.
Valve timing modulation for EGR balancing
Methods and systems are provided for increasing EGR delivered to an engine. In one example, a method may include determining an EVO timing set point and an external EGR setpoint in parallel, based on an inverse model. The EVO timing may be adjusted based on a combination of the EVO timing setpoint and an EGR cylinder balancing feedback loop, thereby varying internal EGR to the engine to supplement external EGR.

Control device and control method for vehicle
To provide a control device for a vehicle capable of controlling the torque of a drive source so as to appropriately balance the suppression of body vibrations and the securing of a transient response during acceleration or deceleration. This control device for a vehicle includes an accelerator position sensor that detects the accelerator opening, a torque adjustment mechanism such as a throttle valve that adjusts the torque of an engine as the drive source of the vehicle, and a powertrain control module (PCM) that controls the torque adjustment mechanism based on the accelerator opening. The PCM sets the target acceleration of the vehicle based on the accelerator opening, sets the target torsion angle of the drive shaft based on the target acceleration, sets the target torque of the engine based on the target torsion, and controls the torque adjustment mechanism based on the target torque.
Internal combustion engine with injection quantity control
An internal combustion engine is provided. The internal combustion engine includes a control device, and at least one injector for liquid fuel. The injector(s) can be controlled by the control device via an actuator control signal. The injector(s) include an injector outlet opening for the liquid fuel which can be closed by a needle. A sensor is also provided for measuring a measurement variable of the injector(s). The sensor is or can be in a signal connection with the control device. An algorithm is stored in the control device, which algorithm calculates a state of the injector(s) based on input variables and an injector model, compares the state calculated via the injector model with a target state, and produces a state signal in accordance therewith. The state signal is characteristic of a change in the state of the injector(s) that occurs during intended use of the injector(s) and/or an unforeseen change in the state of the injector(s). The input variables include at least the actuator control signal and the measurement values of the sensor. A method for operating such an internal combustion engine and an injector is also provided.
