Methods and systems for cylinder diagnosis

Systems and methods are provided for diagnosing cylinders. In one example, a system includes an engine having a plurality of cylinders coupled to a crankshaft, a crankshaft speed sensor, and a controller. The controller is configured to receive a first output from the crankshaft speed sensor during nominal engine operation, receive a second output from the crankshaft speed sensor during engine operation where a fueling disturbance is introduced to a cylinder of the plurality of cylinders, indicate that the cylinder is unhealthy responsive to a difference between the first output and the second output being less than a threshold difference, and adjust one or more operating parameters of the engine in response to the indication.

Method for synchronizing an internal combustion engine

A method for synchronizing an internal combustion engine includes: a) a first step of acquiring, by the camshaft sensor, signals corresponding to at least five cam edges x; b) a second step of determining the value, from the camshaft signal, of a first, second and third actual ratio; c) a third step of establishing, for each actual value ratio obtained in b), a list of possible cam edges x by comparing the values of the first, second and third actual ratios, respectively, with a tolerance window corresponding to a value of a first, second or third theoretical ratio for a given cam edge x, each weighted by a tolerance factor k; and d) a fourth step of determining the cam edge x seen by the camshaft sensor, the cam edge actually seen by the sensor corresponding to the cam edge x common to the three lists established in c).

The present disclosure in some aspects provides a device and a control method for counteracting an intrusion into an in-vehicle network of a vehicle, including a communication unit configured to communicate with an external network and the in-vehicle network, a memory storing instructions, and at least one processor, wherein the instructions stored in the memory cause, when executed, the at least one processor to perform monitoring an intrusion attempt from the external network into the in-vehicle network, blocking communication between the communication unit and the external network upon detecting the intrusion into the in-vehicle network, establishing a communication link with a terminal of a driver of the vehicle through the communication unit, and performing communication with the external network through the communication unit and the terminal of the driver.

Method of controlling operation of an exhaust gas treatment apparatus

A method is disclosed for controlling an engine assembly comprising an internal combustion engine and an exhaust gas treatment apparatus. The aftertreatment assembly may require cleaning from time to time, and where this involves active thermal management of the aftertreatment assembly, the method involves performing the following steps: (a) imposing a first limit on engine speed; (b) awaiting an engine safe state; and (c) implementing a cleaning process comprising: (i) injecting fuel into the engine such that the fuel passes through the engine without combusting for the fuel to combust in the diesel oxidation catalyst so as to target an increase in exhaust gas temperature in the diesel oxidation catalyst; and (ii) removing the first limit on engine speed and targeting an engine speed set point, wherein the engine speed set point is at a higher speed than the first limit on engine speed.

Supplemental starting system

The disclosure is directed to a system and method for providing supplemental power to start one or more cranking motors. The supplemental starting system includes a starting-signal isolator configured to connect to one or more electrical starting-signal wires providing starting signal to one or more cranking motors, a resetting relay electrically connecting to the starting-signal isolator, a programmable logic controller (PLC) electrically connecting to the resetting relay, a supplemental battery relay electrically connecting to the starting-signal isolator and the PLC, a supplemental battery electrically connecting to the supplemental battery relay, and a positive output-terminal electrically connecting to the supplemental battery relay. When an output of the starting-signal isolator is higher than a threshold voltage, the resetting relay and the supplemental battery relay are configured to be in a close state, so that the supplemental starting system is configured to provide electricity to one of the one or more cranking motors.

A control method can be used for securing continuously variable valve duration (CVVD) startability when a CVVD error is recognized by a CVVD controller during an operation of a CVVD system.
