A storage device stores a first mapping that receives, as an input, first input variables including a previously estimated value for a fuel temperature variable, a pump variable on a state of a fuel pump, a first engine variable on a state of an engine, and an outside air temperature variable on an outside air temperature, and outputs the fuel temperature variable. Further, an execution device is configured to acquire the first input variables and estimate the fuel temperature variable by applying the acquired first input variables to the first mapping. Therefore, it is possible to estimate the fuel temperature variable by applying the first input variables to the first mapping even without providing a temperature sensor.

Systems and methods for a dual fuel system of a variable displacement engine

Systems and methods are provided for operating a port fuel and direct injection fuel system of a rolling variable displacement engine (rVDE). In one example, a method may include selecting between controlling a lift pump of the fuel system to output fuel at a mechanically limited pressure and controlling the lift pump to output fuel at a pressure lower than the mechanically limited pressure based on whether port fuel injection is used. In this way, the lift pump may be controlled without feedback from a pressure sensor, reducing system costs, while electrical power consumption increases due to operating the lift pump to output fuel at the mechanically limited pressure are minimized due to the rVDE technology, which reduces port fuel injection usage.

A vehicle includes a residual pressure holding valve provided downstream a feed pump of a fuel to hold a pressure in a fuel pipe leading to the port injection valve. Residual pressure holding valve is opened to return the fuel in the fuel pipe to the fuel tank when the pressure in the fuel pipe exceeds a valve opening pressure, and closed when the pressure in the fuel pipe is lower than the valve opening pressure. At the time of a request to reduce a target pressure of the fuel to be supplied to the electric feed pump, a control device refrains from causing the target pressure to decrease when a load of the engine is smaller than a prescribed value, and causes the target pressure to decrease when the load of the engine is greater than the prescribed value.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR ADJUSTING FUEL INJECTION BASED ON A DETERMINED FUEL RAIL TEMPERATURE

Methods and systems are provided for detecting a temperature of an engine fuel rail at a plurality of locations along the engine fuel rail. In one example, a method may include detecting temperatures along the engine fuel rail with a plurality of metal film thermocouples adhered to the engine fuel rail and arranged proximate to engine fuel injectors, and adjusting fuel injector operation and/or fuel rail pressure in response to the detected fuel rail temperatures.

Fuel injection apparatus for internal combustion engine

Fuel in a fuel tank is supplied by a low-pressure pump to intake passage injectors mounted on an intake manifold via a low-pressure fuel supply pipe and a low-pressure fuel distribution pipe. A high-pressure pump is provided on the low-pressure fuel supply pipe. The pressure of the fuel is boosted by the high-pressure pump, and then is supplied to in-cylinder injectors via a high-pressure fuel distribution pipe. In an intake passage injection (MPI) mode, excitation of a solenoid is stopped and operation of an electromagnetic spill valve is stopped so as reduce vibration and noise caused by the seating of the electromagnetic spill valve in a valve seat.

Method and system for operating a fuel injector

Methods and systems for adjusting fuel injector operation according to changes in fuel pressure during inter-injection periods are described. The inter-injection period may be before and after fuel is injected to an engine. The methods and systems described herein may be suitable for direct and port fuel injectors.

A pump has a plurality of pumping elements, each being independently responsive to an actuation signal from a controller. The controller is programmed to maintain a desired pressure at the pump discharge, monitor the fluid pressure at the pump discharge, compare the fluid pressure with the desired fluid pressure to determine a pressure error, provide commands to sequentially actuate the pumping elements when the pressure error is within a threshold range, and provide commands to actuate more than one of the plurality of pumping elements simultaneously, such that more than one pumped amounts of fluid are delivered simultaneously at the pump discharge, when the pressure error droops outside of the threshold range.
