Method for operating an engine
Systems and methods for controlling fuel factions delivered to different cylinders are provided. In one example, a controller is configured to, during a single engine cycle and responsive to a first condition, deliver a lower fraction of a first fuel into a donor cylinder in comparison to a fraction of the first fuel being injected into a non-donor cylinder and deliver a higher fraction of a second fuel into the donor cylinder in comparison to a fraction of the second fuel being injected into the non-donor cylinder.
CONTROL METHOD AND CONTROL DEVICE FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
An internal combustion engine (1) includes: an exhaust gas recirculation unit equipped with an exhaust gas recirculation control valve (9); a crank angle sensor (11) that detects an indicated mean effective pressure fluctuation rate (cPi) as an indicator of combustion stability of the internal combustion engine (1); and a controller (10) that corrects the EGR rate of the exhaust gas recirculation unit based on the combustion stability. The controller (10) is configured to: increase-correct the EGR rate by a predetermined amount when the state where the indicated mean effective pressure fluctuation rate (cPi) is lower than a threshold value continues for a predetermined number of cycles; and decrease-correct the EGR rate by a predetermined amount immediately when the indicated mean effective pressure fluctuation rate (cPi) is higher than or equal to the threshold value.
ENGINE IGNITION TIMING CONTROL METHOD
An engine ignition timing control method includes: acquiring, by an engine control unit (ECU), intake air humidity of an engine using a humidity sensor; calculating, by the ECU, an amount of first ignition timing correction based on the intake air humidity and an EGR rate; calculating, by the ECU, an amount of second ignition timing correction based on an engine operation region; and correcting, by the ECU, ignition timing of the engine using the amount of first ignition timing correction and the amount of second ignition timing correction.
SENSOR SYSTEM AND METHOD
A system may include virtual sensors representative of operation of different portions of a tangible system. The virtual sensors may receive measured characteristics of the tangible system and may separately output values representative of operation of a common component of the tangible system based on the one or more measured characteristics input into each virtual sensor. A controller may receive the output values from the virtual sensors and determine a state of the common component by comparing the first output value with the second output value.
Engine ignition timing control method

ENGINE INTAKE AIR AND EXHAUST CONTROL SYSTEM
In one aspect, a method for controlling an internal combustion engine system including an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve and a variable-geometry turbocharger (VGT) having a compressor and a turbine includes receiving a plurality of requests for the internal combustion engine system. The method also includes predicting a plurality of expected states of the internal combustion engine system based on the plurality of requests and generating sets of candidate control points for actuating the EGR valve and the VGT based on the plurality of expected states. The method further includes selecting a set of candidate control points that avoids a surge condition of the compressor and based on the selected set of candidate control points, generating commands for actuating the EGR valve and the VGT.
METHODS OF HEALTH DEGRADATION ESTIMATION AND FAULT ISOLATION FOR SYSTEM HEALTH MONITORING
Methods and systems for fault identification and mitigation in an engine system. A state observer obtains current state information from the engine system, and a feature calculator uses data obtained from the state observer to calculate one or more feature indicators, which are monitored by a health estimator for the occurrence of a change using one or more change probability models. When the health estimator identifies a change, a fault isolator determines a component of the engine system that is subject to fault or health deterioration.
APPARATUSES, METHODS, SYSTEMS, AND TECHNIQUES FOR IMPROVING THE ACCURACY OF INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE TORQUE DETERMINATIONS
A system comprises a powertrain including an engine configured to output torque to a driveline, and an electronic control system operatively coupled with the powertrain. The electronic control system is configured to determine an engine torque value, and control a component of the driveline in response to the engine torque value. The engine torque value may account for an effect of air-fuel ratio (AFR) on engine torque. The engine torque value may account for an effect of charge transport delay on engine torque

Cost based substitution ratio control in hydrogen-capable internal combustion engine system
Operating an internal combustion engine system includes combusting gaseous hydrogen fuel and gaseous hydrocarbon fuel at a first substitution ratio in a plurality of cylinders in an engine, inputting an emissions cost value and a hydrogen cost value to a fuel blending control system for the engine, and determining, by way of an electronic control unit of the fuel blending control system, a fuel blending control term based on the respective cost values. Operating the engine system further includes varying admission of at least one of the hydrogen fuel or the hydrocarbon fuel to an intake system for the engine based on the fuel blending control term, and combusting the hydrogen fuel and the hydrocarbon fuel at a second substitution ratio produced by the varied admission in the plurality of cylinders in the engine.
