COMBUSTION SYSTEM
A combustion system is applied to an engine. The combustion system includes an injection device that injects a fuel into a combustion chamber, a spark plug that ignites fuel in the combustion chamber, and a control device that controls the injection device and the spark plug. The control device includes a first control unit that executes predetermined first control. In the first control, control is performed such that, a total injection amount corresponding to all the fuel injected by the injection device in one combustion cycle of the engine is injected within a first period corresponding to a period from valve close timing which brings an intake valve into a closed state until a first half of a compression stroke of the engine ends.
Methods and systems for cylinder diagnosis
Systems and methods are provided for diagnosing cylinders. In one example, a system includes an engine having a plurality of cylinders coupled to a crankshaft, a crankshaft speed sensor, and a controller. The controller is configured to receive a first output from the crankshaft speed sensor during nominal engine operation, receive a second output from the crankshaft speed sensor during engine operation where a fueling disturbance is introduced to a cylinder of the plurality of cylinders, indicate that the cylinder is unhealthy responsive to a difference between the first output and the second output being less than a threshold difference, and adjust one or more operating parameters of the engine in response to the indication.
Methods and system for stopping an internal combustion engine
A method for stopping an engine within a desired crankshaft angular range is disclosed. In one example, the method may take no control actions if it is determined that the engine will stop within the desired crankshaft angular range. However, if it is determined that the engine may stop outside of the desired crankshaft angular range, expansion combustion may be initiated in a cylinder so that the engine stops in a desired crankshaft angular range.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR GENERATING AUXILIARY TORQUE
Systems and methods for generating auxiliary torque are provided. In one example, a method for controlling a supercharger comprises, responsive to requested torque exceeding spark authority of an engine, varying a current applied to a motor of the supercharger to provide an amount of torque to a crankshaft of the engine. In this way, a supercharger can be controlled to compensate for an engine torque shortfall.
APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR REDUCING RATTLE NOISE OF AUTOMOTIVE TURBOCHARGER
The present disclosure provides an apparatus and a method for reducing rattle noise of an automotive turbocharger. The apparatus and the method may reduce the occurrence of rattle noise, caused by exhaust gas passing through an exhaust bypass hole, by bidirectionally controlling an opening angle of a waste gate valve by an actuator. The actuator may utilize a bidirectional motor so that the waste gate valve may operate in a direction in which the exhaust bypass hole is opened as well as in a direction in which the exhaust bypass hole is closed. Further, the rattle noise can be reduced by a valve stopper which supports the rear side of the waste gate valve in an opened state, the valve stopper is provided at an appropriate position of a turbine housing.
Method and system for controlling the speed of an internal combustion engine driving a disengageable device
Disclosed is a method for regulating the speed of an engine which drives a disengageable device. The regulation of the engine speed is effected in accordance with a first mode when the disengageable device is disengaged and in accordance with a second mode when the disengageable device is engaged. The determination is effected by: —estimating the resistive torque exerted on the engine by the disengageable device; -changing a binary value from a first value representative of the disengaged state to a second value representative of the engaged state when the estimated resistive torque is higher than a first predetermined threshold for a first predetermined period of time; and —changing the binary value from the second value to its first value when, for a second predetermined period of time, the estimated resistive torque is lower than a second threshold possibly equal to the first threshold.
Throttle system
Disclosed is a throttle quadrant arrangement utilizing a throttle lever mechanically connected to three Rotary Variable Differential Transformers (RVDTs). The signals from the RVDTs are monitored by a process where the processing component. More specifically, RVDT outputs are monitored by the engine control system to determine if they are outside a predetermined range of operability. If an RVDT is not operable, the engine control system establishes a thrust output using the signal from one of the functional two. If only one or none are within the range, the system moves on to a default mode.
METHOD FOR DYNAMICALLY DETERMINING A FIRING PATTERN FOR AN ENGINE WITH DYNAMIC CYLINDER ACTIVATION AND A SYSTEM IMPLEMENTING THE METHOD
A system and method for dynamically deactivating engine cylinders of an engine equipped with a cylinder deactivation system, where the system and method control torsional vibration in the engine while deactivating cylinders using a computer programed with a desired firing density and a controlled range of engine vibration frequencies. The computer dynamically determines a cylinder firing pattern that provides the desired firing density while optimizing a cost function norm in the controlled range of engine vibration frequencies. The cylinder deactivation system in the engine is then controlled using the determined cylinder firing pattern.
COMBUSTION SYSTEM
A normal control unit performs a normal control to cause an injection apparatus to perform predetermined normal injection and subsequently cause an ignition plug to perform ignition. In a delay region in a combustion chamber, propagation of flame is retarded further than in another region when the normal control is performed. In a knock state, self-ignition occurs in the delay region when the normal control is performed. When the knock state is established, an adjustment control unit performs, to suppress the self-ignition, an adjustment control to perform main injection and subsequently perform sub-injection in a second half of a compression stroke to adjust a fuel distribution in the combustion chamber to facilitate propagation of flame to the delay region further than in the normal control and subsequently cause the ignition plug to perform the ignition.
Phase diagnosis method and apparatus
A phase diagnosis method and apparatus. When it is verified that the location of an engine is valid, an oil injector performs spraying at a top center compression position; if no acceleration is detected after spraying, it indicates that a fault occurs; in order to detect whether it is a fault of phase deviation of the camshaft by 180 degrees, the oil sprayer performs spraying at the top center exhaust position and detects whether there is an acceleration; if an acceleration is detected, it indicates that the situation of the phase deviation of the camshaft by 180 degrees exists. In this way, the problem in the prior art of being unable to detect phase deviation when the phase of a camshaft is deviated by 180 degrees is solved.
