Piston with keystone second ring groove for high temperature internal combustion engines
A piston for a high temperature internal combustion engine is provided. The piston includes an upper wall, base wall, outer rib, and inner rib defining a cooling chamber therebetween, and a plurality of ring grooves formed in the outer rib. Only the second ring groove is formed with the keystone cross-section, and all of the other ring grooves are formed with the conventional rectangular cross-section. Thus, the piston can be formed with low manufacturing costs and can also provide exceptional performance when used in high temperature combustion engines, wherein the temperature at the first ring groove is greater than 280° C., and thus prevents carbon from depositing or burns off any carbon deposits, but the temperature at the second ring groove is between 200° C. and 280° C., in which case carbon deposits can form and cause the piston ring to stick.

A piston includes a swirl pocket that extends radially from the radially outer lip portion to a lower axial extremity spaced away from the radially outer lip portion a first axial distance. A convex arcuate surface extends downwardly and inwardly from the radially outer lip portion, a concave arcuate surface extends to the lower axial extremity from the convex arcuate surface, and a conical portion extends upwardly and inwardly from the concave arcuate surface to an apex that is spaced a second axial distance from the radially outer lip portion that is less than the first axial distance.

An engine piston having a piston upper part, a piston lower part connected to the piston upper part, a piston pin mounted in the piston lower part connects the piston to a connecting rod, and a first cooling space between the piston upper and lower parts for cooling oil. The first cooling space is connected to a second cooling space formed between the piston upper part and a piston lower part via at least one transfer bore, a cooling oil conduction sleeve for conducting cooling oil through a bore in the connecting rod towards the first cooling space. A guiding surface of the cooling oil conduction sleeve adjoins a support face of the piston lower part. At least one groove circulating in the circumferential direction is introduced into the guiding surface of the cooling oil conduction sleeve and/or into the support face of the piston lower part.
Engine with gas exchange through piston rod
An internal combustion may include a cylinder having a first combustion chamber at one end and a second combustion chamber at an opposing end, first and second cylinder heads located at an end of the first and second combustion chambers, respectively, and a double-faced piston slidably mounted therein. The piston may be configured to move in a first stroke that includes an expansion stroke portion and a non-expansion stroke portion. The engine may further include first and second piston rod portions extending from opposite faces of the piston. A recess in the piston rod portions may be configured to communicate gases between a combustion chamber and locations outside the cylinder. There may also be a chamber surrounding the first or second piston rod portion, the chamber configured to be supplied with gas and the chamber being isolated from the first combustion chamber and the second combustion chamber.
Piston and cylinder of an internal combustion engine
A piston of a cylinder of an internal combustion engine includes: a piston skirt; a grooved ring belt on a first axial side of the piston skirt, the ring belt grooves being limited by, and separated from one another by, ring lands, the ring grooves for receiving a piston ring; and an oil collection channel between the piston skirt and the ring belt. The oil collection channel has a greater depth than in the circumferential position of a coupling side of the piston and/or in the circumferential position of a coupling opposite side of the piston. The oil collection channel has a gradient, the gradient emanating from an axial depth in a region of the coupling side and/or of the coupling opposite side in the direction of the axial depth in the region of the pressure side and/or of the pressure opposite side.
Piston with a ring carrier and a glass piston
The invention relates to a piston (1), comprising a ring carrier (2) and a glass piston (3) for observing processes in a combustion chamber (B) of an internal combustion engine, wherein the glass piston (3) is placed upon the ring carrier (2) and is securely connected thereto in the region of an inner casing surface (8) of the ring carrier (2). In order to avoid overly high heat strain in the glass piston (3), the glass piston (3) is connected to the ring carrier (2) via at least one form-fit connection (20), and preferably via a force-fit connection (30).

Provided is a piston for an internal combustion engine, the piston including a body having a piston pin boss for inserting a piston pin thereinto, and a skirt corresponding to a cylinder wall, and a cooling channel provided in the body to allow a refrigerant for cooling the body, to flow therethrough, and having a ring shape including a first channel provided from a refrigerant inlet to a refrigerant outlet along a first outer circumferential direction of the body, and a second channel provided from the refrigerant inlet to the refrigerant outlet along a second outer circumferential direction of the body.

An internal combustion engine has a cylinder block and a cylinder head fixed to each other with a plurality of bolts, and a piston fitted in a cylinder bore of the cylinder block so as to be able to reciprocate. A portion of the cylinder bore having a minimum diameter in a travel range of a skirt across which the skirt travels as the piston reciprocates is located within a range facing the skirt when the piston is at a bottom dead center. A clearance between the skirt and the minimum-diameter portion has a minimum value of a clearance between the skirt and a wall surface of the cylinder bore.

A piston for an internal combustion engine is proposed with a piston head and with two pin bosses which lie opposite one another, are molded integrally onto the piston head in the direction which faces away from the piston head, and have in each case one pin bore. In each case one turned groove is formed into the radially inner regions of the lower halves of the pin bores, which halves face away from the piston head.

A piston assembly for an internal combustion engine includes a cylinder bore and a piston having a plurality of ring grooves, and a ring positioned within a ring groove. The ring includes a cross-section having a lower surface and an outer radial surface that form a scraping corner, an inner radial surface, and an upper surface. The upper surface and the lower surface are generally parallel with one another, and both upper and lower surfaces form a positive first angle with respect to a radial axis, and the outer radial surface forms a second positive angle with respect to a central axis. A constant twist occurs in the ring about a rotational center of the cross-section, the constant twist occurring at each cross-sectional location of the ring about the circumference of the ring and between adjacent free ends of the ring.
