INTERCHANGEABLE COMBUSTION ENGINE
20220412286 · 2022-12-29 ·

Systems and methods for combustion engines with interchangeable components are described herein. An engine sub-assembly for a gasoline powered engine can include a crankcase having an opening extending at least through an upper surface thereof, the opening being configured to receive a crank arm therethrough, and a first mounting plate configured to be coupled with the crankcase. The first mounting plate can be selectively removable from the crankcase. The opening of the first mounting plate can generally align with the opening in the crankcase when the first mounting plate is coupled with the crankcase. The first mounting plate can be configured to receive a first cylinder block and to couple the first cylinder block to the crankcase. A second mounting plate can be configured to couple with a second cylinder block that is different than the first cylinder block and to couple the second cylinder block to the crankcase.

An internal combustion engine according to the invention comprises at least two engine blocks which are coupled to one another and each of which includes at least two cylinders, each cylinder being connected to a common drive shaft via a transmission and a clutch. If there is a problem with one engine block, same can be disconnected from the drive shaft so that the engine can continue to operate by means of the other engine block.

Support structure for supporting a conduit of an engine

A support structure for supporting a conduit of an engine includes a bracket assembly having a platform, a pair of brackets, and a pair of fixtures. The platform supports the conduit. Each bracket includes a first lateral post coupled to the platform, a second lateral post coupled to an engine block, a first longitudinal post, and a second longitudinal post. Also, a lateral distance between the first longitudinal post and the second longitudinal post increases in a direction away from the first lateral post towards the second lateral post. Each bracket also includes a stiffener connecting the first longitudinal post and the second longitudinal post. Each fixture includes a pair of legs and couples the platform to an engine head. Further, each fixture includes a web structure having a central portion and a plurality of stems connecting to the pair of legs.

Internal combustion engine with hinged access to lower block

Hinge pins for use in a method of accessing a crankshaft within an internal combustion engine that includes: A) inserting a first hinge pivot of a first hinge pin into a first bore on a front side of the internal combustion engine and locking in place; B) inserting a second hinge pivot of a second hinge pin into a second bore on a rear side opposite from the front side of the internal combustion engine and locking in place; and C) rotating the upper block upward around an axis of rotation running through the first bore and the second bore to expose a cavity between the upper block and the lower block to allow access to the crankshaft.

The present disclosure relates to an engine assembly for a vehicle. The engine assembly comprises an engine including a cylinder head and an engine block. The engine block comprises a cylinder block and a crankcase having a crankshaft. The engine may be used in different models of the vehicle having different characteristics by interchanging or replacing the cylinder head from a plurality of cylinder heads and/or a cylinder block from a plurality of cylinder blocks, while keeping one or more engine components such as the crankcase, a timing chain, or a valve cover the same. Accordingly, the engine is adaptable to different vehicles.
