A control system for an engine includes one or more processors configured to determine when a change in one or more of oxygen or fuel supplied to an engine. The one or more processors also are configured to, responsive to determining the change in oxygen and/or fuel supplied to an engine, direct one or more fuel injectors of the engine to begin injecting fuel into one or more cylinders of the engine during both a first fuel injection and a second fuel injection during each cycle of a multi-stroke engine cycle of the one or more cylinders.
Method for maximizing the formation of deposits in injector nozzles of GDI engines
The invention relates to the technology of gasoline direct injection (GDI) in automotive engines. In this context, the invention provides a method for maximizing the formation of deposits in injector nozzles of GDI engines, said method including at least one test cycle, each test cycle including at least one testing step in which a predetermined condition of speed and load of the GDI engine is maintained for a specified period of time, wherein, in said cycle, in at least one testing step, the engine speed is maintained between 1300 and 3700 rpm, the engine load is maintained between 10 and 80% and the specified period of time is from 10 to 200 minutes. Thus, the method of the invention is able to reproduce severe conditions of deposition of material in a few days, so that, in a short period of time, the test fuel can be assessed for tendency to form deposits.
PUMP HEALTH ASSESSMENT SYSTEM
A pump health assessment system and a method for providing a pump health of a pump is disclosed. The method includes: determining that there is an imbalance in the pump; increasing pump flow from the pump; measuring a rail pressure of a fuel rail; determining if the rail pressure is substantially equal to an expected rail pressure profile; and in accordance with a determination that the rail pressure is not substantially equal to the rail pressure profile, outputting an indication of pump damage.

A method for ascertaining a variable characterizing a flow rate of a fuel injector during an operation of an internal combustion engine, to which the fuel injector is assigned. At least two input values for a data-based model are ascertained, and at least one output value is determined with the aid of the data-based model, on the basis of which a value for the variable characterizing the flow rate of the fuel injector is ascertained. The data-based model combines at least two methods differing from one another for ascertaining a variable characterizing a flow rate of a fuel injector.
ESTIMATING A LEVEL OF CORROSION OF AN INJECTOR
Disclosed is a method for estimating a level of corrosion of an injector of an engine, the engine including a reference injector and at least one other injector, each injector including a tip in fluidic communication with a combustion chamber specific to each of the injectors, the respective combustion chamber of each injector also being in fluidic communication with an exhaust system of the engine. The method includes: while the engine is stopped, inhibiting a propagation of the gases from the exhaust system toward the tip of the reference injector; determining a static flow rate of an injector and a static flow rate of the reference injector; and estimating a level of corrosion of the injector by comparing the static flow rate of the injector with the static flow rate of the reference injector.
DETERMINING A DRIFT IN THE FUEL STATIC FLOW RATE OF A PIEZOELECTRIC INJECTOR OF A MOTOR VEHICLE HEAT ENGINE
The disclosure relates to a method for determining a drift in the static fuel flow rate of a piezoelectric injector of a motor vehicle combustion engine. The method relies on fluid-pressure measurements carried out in the injector supply chamber in order to calculate a measured static flow rate value. This value is compared against a nominal static flow rate in order to determine the existence, if any, and amplitude of the drift in the static flow rate. Furthermore, each pressure measurement is carried out when the valve of the injector is closed and the injector is open. In this way, the measured static flow rate calculation is not influenced by pressure-variation effects not relevant to the measurement.
METHOD, PROGRAM PRODUCT AND COMPUTER FOR ESTIMATING THE STATIC FLOW RATE OF A PIEZOELECTRIC INJECTOR
Disclosed is a method for determining a static flow rate of a piezo-electric injector of an injection system. The piezo-electric injector includes a needle and a piezo-electric actuator designed to control a valve of the injector. The injection system includes an electric generator designed to send electric current pulses to the piezo-electric actuator of the injector, and a voltage sensor designed to measure voltage values at the terminals of the piezo-electric actuator. The method includes the following steps: sending during a phase of closure of the needle of an electric current pulse such that the piezo-electric actuator is positioned in contact with the valve, without giving rise to the opening thereof; measurement of a plurality of voltage values of the piezo-electric actuator; and determining a static flow rate of the piezo-electric injector on the basis of a plurality of voltage values measured of the piezo-electric actuator.
METHODS FOR MEASURING FUEL QUANTITY DURING MULTIPULSE FUEL INJECTION EVENTS IN A COMMON RAIL FUEL SYSTEM
Various embodiments of the present disclosure relate to methods and systems for measuring an injected fuel quantity during multipulse injection events in a common rail of a fuel system including a fuel pump to supply fuel to the common rail. The method, using a control unit, determines if each of the multipulse injection events in a normal operating condition includes a pilot pulse, in response to determining that the pilot pulse is included, obtaining an enforced separation value between the pilot pulse and the main pulse to emulate a single-pulse injection; while the fuel pump is temporarily shut off, performing a temporary enforced separation on a fraction of the multipulse injection events; measuring a pressure change in the common rail during the temporary enforced separation; and resuming the normal operating condition of the multipulse injection events after the pressure change is measured.
