A method and system of controlling an engine for vehicle interior heating is provided. The method includes performing a first engine control when the engine is not in an engine-on state for vehicle driving, to perform heating control for interior heating at a predetermined range of a reference coolant temperature. Additionally, the method includes performing a second engine control when the engine is in an engine-on state for vehicle driving, to prolong an engine-on time for vehicle driving by setting a minimum value of the range of the reference coolant temperature to a lower value and setting a maximum value of the range of the reference coolant temperature to a higher value and to determine a point of time of engine-off operation based on a real-time lock up time and an average lock up time of an engine clutch for vehicle driving.

Method and apparatus for controlling internal combustion engine

In automatic stopping of the internal combustion engine, an electronic control unit controls a heater so that an element temperature of the air-fuel ratio sensor becomes a first temperature. The first temperature is a temperature that is below an activation temperature range in which the air-fuel ratio sensor is activated, and is also below a desorption temperature range in which HC components adsorbed on the air-fuel ratio sensor desorb therefrom. In a case where, after the element temperature of the air-fuel ratio sensor becomes the first temperature, it is estimated that the amount of HC components adsorbed on the air-fuel ratio sensor increases to exceed a first predetermined amount, the electronic control unit controls the heater so that the element temperature of the air-fuel ratio sensor becomes a second temperature. The second temperature is a temperature included in the desorption temperature range.

FUEL HEATER

A fuel heater including an engine that is driven by combustion of air-fuel mixture including air and fuel supplied to a combustion chamber within a cylinder, a battery that stores electricity, and a motor that drives the engine by the electricity supplied from the battery, the fuel heater includes a fuel heating portion heating the fuel with the electricity supplied from the battery, and a controller performing one of a first control by increasing the amount of electricity supplied from the battery to the fuel heating portion and a second control by increasing heating time of the fuel by the fuel heating portion for a time period until the engine starts in a case where a battery charge remaining of the battery is equal to or smaller than a remaining threshold value at a start of the engine.

An oxygen sensor diagnosis control system of a hybrid electric vehicle is provided. The system of a hybrid electric vehicle eliminates an uncertainty of the number of diagnoses of an oxygen sensor and restrains diagnoses of the oxygen sensor in a hybrid electric vehicle. The system of a hybrid electric vehicle includes a hybrid controller operates a vehicle, and determines conversion of an oxygen sensor diagnosis mode based on a result obtained by calculating an oxygen sensor diagnosis index. Additionally, the controller determines whether a condition for diagnosing an oxygen sensor is satisfied when the oxygen sensor diagnosis index decreases to initiate a diagnosis inducing mode or a compulsory diagnosis mode.

ENGINE IDLE REDUCTION CONTROL APPARATUS

An engine idle reduction control apparatus includes a first data acquiring unit, a detecting unit, a first determining unit, a control unit, and a second determining unit. The detecting unit is configured to detect a traffic circle, on the basis of traveling environment data acquired by the first data acquiring unit. The control unit is configured to execute an idle reduction, in a case where the first determining unit determines that a control condition for a pre-stop idle reduction control is satisfied. The second determining unit is configured to determine whether a prohibition condition for the pre-stop idle reduction control is satisfied, in a case where the traffic circle is detected. The control unit is configured to prohibit the idle reduction even in a case where the control condition is determined to be satisfied, on a condition that the prohibition condition is determined to be satisfied.

Implementing skip fire with start/stop feature

A variety of methods and arrangements for implementing a start/stop feature in a skip fire engine control system are described. In one aspect, the implementation of the start/stop feature involves automatically turning off an internal combustion engine under selected circumstances during a drive cycle. A determination is made that the engine should be restarted. During the engine startup period, the engine is operated in a skip fire manner such that a desired engine speed is reached.

CONTROLLER FOR VEHICLE AND CONTROL METHOD FOR VEHICLE

A controller for a vehicle, the vehicle including an engine and a transmission gear device, the controller includes an electronic control unit. The electronic control unit is configured to: (i) stop the engine automatically when predetermined engine stopping conditions are fulfilled, the predetermined engine stopping conditions including fulfillment of a shift position condition of the transmission gear device, (ii) start the engine automatically when a predetermined waiting time has elapsed since a change in shift position, and (iii) change the waiting time depending on the duration of an automatic stop of the engine.

SADDLE-RIDING TYPE VEHICLE

A saddle-riding type vehicle includes an automatic clutch mechanism configured to be activated by an actuator which enables a push start to be executed, so that even when a charged capacity of a battery is reduced, an engine can be started. A control unit of the vehicle proceeds to a push start control mode when an engine stopped state detection portion detects a stopped state of an engine, a vehicle stopped state detection portion detects a stopped state of the saddle-riding type vehicle, and a gear selected state detection portion detects a state in which any one of gears of a transmission is selected. In the push start control mode, the control unit applies a clutch to start the engine when a vehicle speed detection portion detects a predetermined vehicle speed or faster, and a cutoff switch state detection portion detects a change in state of a cutoff switch.
