Internal combustion engine with electric starting system
An internal combustion engine includes an engine block, a blower housing configured to direct cooling air to the engine block, an electric starting system, and a crankshaft configured to rotate about a crankshaft axis. The electric starting system includes an electric motor and an energy storage device located within the blower housing. The energy storage device is electrically coupled to the electric motor to power the electric motor, and is positioned above the crankshaft. When the starter motor is activated, the electric starting system rotates the crankshaft to rotate the engine for starting.

The internal combustion engine, the alternator, and the controller are positioned within the cavity.

Engine starting system
An electric starting system is provided for an engine. The electric starting system may include a self-contained housing configured to be mounted between an engine and a tool driven by the engine. The electric starting system may also include an electric motor mounted to the housing, the electric motor configured rotationally engage an output shaft of the engine to effectuate starting of the engine.
Starter-generator with power electronic unit
A starter-generator module for a vehicle includes a bulkhead wall, a module housing fixed to the bulkhead wall, an e-motor stator fixed to the module housing, an e-motor rotor disposed radially inside of the e-motor stator, and a power electronics unit fixed to the module housing. The module housing has a first opening and the power electronics unit covers the first opening. The e-motor rotor has a rotor carrier arranged for fixing to a crankshaft of the internal combustion engine. In an example embodiment, the rotor carrier includes holes arranged for receiving respective fasteners for fixing the rotor carrier to an engine crankshaft, and a bolt circle diameter of the holes is less than an inside diameter of the first opening. In an example embodiment, the rotor carrier is fixed to a crankshaft by a bolt, and the first opening is arranged for receiving a tool to secure the bolt.
INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE WITH ELECTRIC STARTING SYSTEM
An engine including an engine block having a cylinder defining a front of the engine, a blower housing coupled to the engine block and defining a hot half positioned adjacent the front of the engine and a cool half opposite the hot half, and an electric starter system positioned within the blower housing. The electric starting system includes a starter mount assembly coupled to the blower housing, an electric starter motor retained by the starter mount assembly and positioned in the cool half, and a battery mounted to the blower housing and positioned in the cool half. The battery is electrically coupled to the electric starter motor.
