In a distribution flow path that allows engine coolant to circulate between an exhaust heat recovery unit and an engine, an upstream flow path on the upstream side of the engine and a downstream flow path on the downstream side of the engine are communicated with each other by means of a bypass flow path to thereby form a short flow path with a shorter flow path length than in a case where the engine coolant that has exited the exhaust heat recovery unit passes through the engine. A valve that can adjust the amount of the engine coolant flowing to the bypass flow path and a short flow path pump are disposed.

ELECTRIC VEHICLE BATTERY THERMAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM AND METHOD

A method of providing coolant to an electric battery for powering a drive train of an electric vehicle is provided. The method includes providing coolant from a coolant source off-board the electric vehicle at a first rate to cool the electric battery during recharging of the electric battery; and circulating coolant through a coolant loop on-board the electric vehicle at a second rate less than the first rate to cool the electric battery after the recharging of the electric battery.

Vehicle heating system and method

Methods and system for providing heat to a vehicle are presented. In one example, a heat pump supplies thermal energy to an engine to reduce engine emissions during engine starting. Further, heating the engine via the heat pump may also reduce engine friction at colder ambient temperatures where oil viscosity may be increased.
