Method and apparatus for controlling a scroll compressor using torque progression to reduce vibration
11674513 · 2023-06-13 · ·

The invention relates to a method used to control a scroll compressor having a first and a second spiral, in particular that are arranged one inside the other. The first spiral can be moved by a motor relative to the second spiral for a decompression or compression operation of the scroll compressor. The invention reduces vibration (actual acceleration forces) in the scroll compressor to allow for a longer service life by adapting a torque curve of the motor on the basis of measured acceleration forces on the scroll compressor which, in turn, is based on the position and/or positional angle of the first spiral relative to the second spiral such that the acceleration forces are reduced below a threshold or minimized.

Compressor and method of operating same

Provided is a compressor including: a compressor body that has a motor and compresses air; an aftercooler for cooling the compressed air supplied from the compressor body; a dryer for dehumidifying the compressed air flowing out from the aftercooler; a drain discharge valve for discharging a drain from the dryer; a first pressure sensor for measuring air pressure downstream of the aftercooler; and a control device having a rotation-speed adjusting unit that drives the motor at second acceleration smaller than first acceleration, the first acceleration being rated acceleration of the motor, when a pressure value measured by the first pressure sensor is less than a first threshold value predetermined at startup of the motor.

METHOD FOR OPERATING A ROLLING PISTON COMPRESSOR

A method of operating a rolling piston rotary compressor includes obtaining an angular position and an angular speed of a rolling piston of the compressor, for example, using a tachometer or shaft encoder or observer. The method further includes obtaining an electromagnetic torque applied by an electric motor that is mechanically coupled to the rolling piston. The method further includes calculating a load torque exerted on the rolling piston based on these obtained values by using a load torque observer model that is formulated using known geometries of the compressor and thermodynamic models for the gas compression process. The operation of the electric motor is then adjusted such that the electromagnetic torque applied by the motor is equivalent to the calculated load torque such that noise and vibrations are minimized.
