The example of the pump system disclosed herein includes an electric motor including a rotor shaft and a stator, wherein the rotor shaft is to generate a first torque; a pump including an impeller coupled to an impeller shaft, wherein the impeller is to increase a kinetic energy of the fluid; a driver wheel attached to the rotor shaft, wherein the driver wheel is radially connected to a follower wheel; and a co-axial magnetic coupling to connect at least one of the follower wheel to the impeller shaft or the driver wheel to the rotor shaft, wherein the co-axial magnetic coupling includes an outer hub, an inner hub, and a barrier can, the barrier can to hermetically seal a portion of the pump system from the fluid.

POWER TRANSMISSION DEVICE

A power transmission device includes: a pole piece configured to rotate by modulating a magnetic flux between a drive-side magnet and a stationary magnet; and a sealing member that partitions an inside of a housing into a driving side space where the drive-side magnet is disposed and a driven side space where the stationary magnet and the pole piece are disposed, so as to seal fluid between the driving side space and the driven side space. The pole piece and the stationary magnet have a cylindrical shape and are disposed coaxially with and radially outer side of the drive-side magnet. The sealing member includes: a sealing cylinder portion positioned radially outer side of the drive-side magnet; and a sealing bottom surface portion covering the sealing cylinder portion from the driving side space.

In an embodiment, an intravascular propeller is installed into the descending aorta and anchored within via an expandable anchoring mechanism. The propeller and anchoring mechanism may be foldable so as to be percutaneously deliverable to the aorta. The propeller may have foldable blades. The blades may be magnetic and may be driven by a concentric electromagnetic stator circumferentially outside the magnetic blades. The stator may be intravascular or may be configured to be installed around the outer circumference of the blood vessel. The support may create a pressure rise between about 20-50 mmHg, and maintain a flow rate of about 5 L/min. The support may have one or more pairs of contra-rotating propellers to modulate the tangential velocity of the blood flow. The support may have static pre-swirlers and or de-swirlers. The support may be optimized to replicate naturally occurring vortex formation within the descending aorta.
