The objective of the invention is to ensure inherent stability with the individual parts and a simple and reliable pre-assembly as well as a fixed mechanical connection, wherein only a small amount of excitation energy is required, with a centrifugal pump impeller comprising a base plate and cover plate.

IMPELLER DESIGN AND MANUFACTURING METHOD WITH PENTAGONAL CHANNEL GEOMETRY

An impeller includes a body with an interior channel extending through the body along a centerline axis of the impeller. A plurality of blades is connected to the body on a forward end of the impeller centerline axis. The plurality of blades surrounds the interior channel and is fluidly connected to an array of inlets. An array of pentagonal channels extends through the body and radially outward in a spiral pattern. Each pentagonal channel is fluidly connected to a corresponding vane inlet and a corresponding pentagonal-shaped outlet. Each channel maintains a pentagonal cross-section shape from the inlet to the outlet. Each downward-sloping face of the cross section is more than 35 degrees from a horizontal plane perpendicular to the centerline axis of the impeller.

This disclosure describes new high temperature, radiation-resistant, ferritic-martensitic steel compositions. The new steels generally contain 9.0-12.0 wt. % Cr, 0.001-1.0 wt. % Mn, 0.001-2.0 wt. % Mo, 0.001-2.5 wt. % W, and 0.1-0.3 wt. % C, with the balance being primarily Fe. More specifically, steels having from 10.0-12.0 wt. % Cr are considered particularly advantageous. Small amounts of N, Nb, V, Ta, Ti, Zr, and B may or may not also be present, depending on the particular embodiment. Impurities may be present in any embodiment, in particular impurities of less than 0.01 wt. % S, less than 0.04 wt. % P, less than 0.04 wt. % Cu, less than 0.05 wt. % Co, and less than 0.03 wt. % As are contemplated. Examples of these steels exhibit improved fracture toughness and reduced thermal creep and swelling.

Flow-Conducting Component

A flow-conducting component such as a pump impeller is provided. Passages between vanes of the flow-conducting component include notches in the form of transitions between the vane and a common surface, such as a cover disk. The notches include a transition surface having a geometric configuration determined in accordance with a calculated load spectrum along at least a portion of the length of the notch and in accordance with a particular geometric pattern.
