The pump turbine includes a first shaft and an impeller mounted on the first shaft. The motor generator includes a second shaft and a rotor at the second shaft for rotating relative to a stator. The second shaft is coupled to the first shaft for transmitting torque between the first and second shafts. The connecting line connects a low pressure opening with an opening for receiving water or discharging water. The second housing is filled with a gas for a barrier pressure during operation of the energy conversion device, such that the rotor rotates within the gas.

Magnet configurations for magnetic levitation of wind turbines and other apparatus

A wind turbine having one or more magnets for reducing friction between the turbine support and a turbine rotor. The reduction of friction between the turbine rotor and the turbine support allows for an increase in energy production and scale of the wind turbines. The magnet configuration employs a ring of cylindrically-shaped magnets at the bottom and opposed by a corresponding number of generally rectangular-shaped magnets. Bearing magnets are also employed for axial stabilization.

The rotating shaft, the rotor, the stator, the stator holding part, and the cylindrical member are arranged in this order in the radial direction in the casing, and are concentrically arranged.
