System and method for use of a tunable mass damper to reduce vibrations in wind turbine blades in a locked or idling condition of the rotor hub
A system and method are provided for reducing vibrations and loads in one or more rotor blades on a rotor hub of a wind turbine when the rotor hub is in a locked or idling condition. An electronically tunable mass damper is attached to a fixed location on one or more of the rotor blades. The mass damper is maintained on the rotor blades during the locked or idling condition of the rotor hub. The method includes sensing movement of a mass component of the mass damper from vibrations or oscillations induced in the rotor blade. The mass damper is automatically tuned based on the sensed movements of the mass component by automatically varying an electrical characteristic of the mass damper.
FREELY-CONTROLLED POWER GENERATION APPARATUS
The present invention relates to a power generation apparatus and, more specifically, to a freely-controlled power generation apparatus configured so as to generate electric power while being freely controlled under optimal conditions, since a cylinder body for supporting screws submerged under water is elevated by buoyancy or rotated according to the flow of the water.
COMPACT VERTICAL AXIS TURBINE
Disclosed are vertical axis turbines comprising: a turbine shaft; a plurality of helicoidal blades mounted on the turbine shaft, each blade comprising a front face and a rear face; and a plurality of venturis, each venturi comprising a channel extending through each of the plurality of blades from the front face thereof to the rear face thereof.
Methods and water reservoir systems for generating, accumulating, storing, and releasing electrical energy
A water reservoir system for generating, accumulating, storing, and releasing electrical energy comprises a reservoir wall built in a shallow body of water such as a sea or an ocean with a height exceeding the outside water level by about 10-25 m, thereby defining an interior of the water reservoir. Excess electrical energy from other renewable sources of electricity such as wind, solar power, or supplied by a local power grid is used to operate water pumps to fill the interior of the water reservoir with water during times of peak supply of electricity. Water is drained from the water reservoir to the outside body of water and generates electrical energy by flowing over a plurality of water turbines, thereby generating electricity and supplementing electrical power for the local power grid during times of high demand. Additional interior sources of renewable energy may be used to supplement external sources of electrical power in operating the system of the invention.
Helicoid in a tube
The helicoid in a tube is an energy conversion device. The helicoid in a tube converts energy in a manner selected from the group consisting of: a) converting the inertia of the mass of the flow of a fluid through the helicoid in a tube into rotational energy; b) converting a rotational energy into a change in the inertia of the mass of the flow of the fluid through the helicoid in a tube; and, c) converting the inertia of the mass of the flow of a fluid through the helicoid in a tube into fluid turbulence, cavitation, and heat in the form of friction. The helicoid in a tube incorporates a turbine stator and a turbine rotor. The turbine rotor installs in the turbine stator.
Venturi vortex and flow facilitating turbine
A wind harvesting assembly for a wind turbine, having: a Venturi tube having a hollow interior having a first air pressure; an open top end having a first diameter; an open bottom end having the first diameter; a tube length spanning between the open top end and the open bottom end; and a constricted section located above the bottom end, the constricted section adapted to increase a velocity of air passing through by having a second diameter smaller than the first diameter; a plurality of vertical wind turbine blades arranged around the Venturi tube, an outlet disbursement blade assembly disposed below the bottom open end of the Venturi tube and a port fan positioned coaxially with the Venturi tube.
Modular multi-axial rotor
A modular, electricity generating apparatus comprises an elongate, central member comprising a first end and a second end; at least one foil disposed about the central member in fluid interacting relation thereto; the solar foil comprising an outer surface having photovoltaic properties; the first end and the second end dimensioned and configured to be connected to a connecting node; and, the elongate central member at least partially formed of an electrically conductive material and configured to conduct electricity from at least one of the connecting nodes to the other of the connecting nodes.
Method and system for attaching vortex suppression devices to a wind turbine tower
A wind turbine includes a tower and a vortex-induced vibration (VIV) mitigation system configured on the tower. The VIV mitigation system has a rod attached to an outer surface of the tower and extending longitudinally along an axis of the tower. A plurality of strake support guides extend transversely from and are spaced apart along the rod, the strake support guides comprising a length and a shape to retain a strake supported thereon. A strake is wrapped in a helical pattern around the tower, wherein at least a plurality of wraps of the strake are laid on and supported by the strake support guides.
Wind power generation device
A wind power generation device includes a rotor assembly and a stator. The rotor assembly includes a rotating member, a first magnetic module, and a second magnetic module the latter two of which are fixed on the rotating member. The rotating member has a column and a spiral blade connected to the column. The first and second magnetic modules are arranged outside the spiral blade and face each other. The rotor assembly defines an annular gap formed around the spiral blade and between the first and second magnetic modules. The stator assembly includes a frame, a positioning member connected to the frame, and an induction module fixed on the positioning member and arranged in the annular gap. The spiral blade can rotate the rotator assembly relative to the stator assembly by wind, so that a region between the first and second magnetic module sweeps over the induction module.
Wave energy harvester
A linear generator includes one or more helices, and one or more magnet members movable relative to a first helix to generate electric energy within the first helix. The first helix includes a first coil. The first helix and/or the magnet members have a density less than that of water such that the first helix and/or the magnet members have buoyant properties when the linear generator is at least partially submerged in the water.
