Rotary vane pump

A rotary vane pump including a housing, and a motor. The motor includes a shaft which is coupled to a rotor. The rotor defines a plurality of slots. A plurality of free moving vanes are disposed within the slots. In one example, the rotor is formed from a first material and the plurality of vanes are formed from the first material and impregnated with a second material. The first material can be a carbon material. The second material can be a resin material, an antimony material, a copper material, or a silver material.

Method of Designing and Producing Fiber-Reinforced Polymer Pistons

A method is provided for designing and producing fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) pistons. Pistons made with FRP have a lower mass than prior art metal pistons conferring advantageous engine efficiency and stability. FRP pistons also increase the thermal efficiency of engines by having a lower thermal conductivity, with tighter piston-to-bore clearance, and/increased air-fuel ratio than pistons of metal. The technical parameters of the piston are identified, and a piston body blank is produced. The blank is then machined, a bearing surface for the pin bore is created, the piston blank is optionally coated, is optionally subjected to Heavy Metal Ion Implantation (HMII) treatment and is subjected to sodium silicate impregnation to produce the final pistons.

SCREW ROTOR AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING SUCH SCREW ROTOR

A screw rotor is made out of polymer. The screw rotor includes a shaft with a rotor body on it. The polymer of the shaft is reinforced with fibers. The shaft features elements that engage the rotor body or corresponding elements on the rotor body, such that the elements prevent an axial and/or rotational movement of the shaft with respect to the rotor body.

Carbon seal assembly

A seal assembly includes a housing at least partially defining a seal opening and at least partially surrounding a rotatable shaft. A carbon seal is located at least partially in the seal opening and includes a sealing surface. The rotatable shaft includes a radially facing surface that has a carbide based coating and a diamond-like carbon coating in engagement with the sealing surface on the carbon seal.

An enhanced elastomeric stator assembly and method of making the same is disclosed. The elastomeric stator may be structurally, thermally, and/or chemically enhanced through the incorporation of graphene particles, cross-linkable polymers, coupling agents that extend cross-links, and by the reduction of filler material. The graphene particles can be incorporated in functionalized or non-functionalized form or in a combination thereof, the functionalized graphene increasing the number of cross-links in the overall structure, thereby enhancing the structural robustness of the elastomeric stator. The compound can be formulated to have a relatively low viscosity and other characteristics that allow the material to flow through a mould cavity.

Sliding member and method for producing the same

In an amorphous carbon film of a sliding member, provided that a number of nitrogen atoms each singly bonded to three carbon atoms is A, and a number of nitrogen atoms each singly and doubly bonded to two carbon atoms, respectively, is B, a value A/B of the amorphous carbon film obtained through X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis is 10 to 18. The method includes irradiating the surface of the substrate with nitrogen ion beams and irradiating a carbon target with electron beams, thereby forming an amorphous carbon film on the surface of the substrate while vapor-depositing a part of the carbon target onto the surface of the substrate. The output of the electron beams that irradiate the carbon target is 30 to 50 W.

External rotor pump with a surface structure having a load-bearing region and a non-load bearing region

An external rotor pump has an outer rotor with a sliding surface which is arranged on the outer side thereof, and an opposing body in which the outer rotor is mounted rotatably by way of the sliding surface thereof on an inner guide surface of the opposing body and is in mechanical contact with the inner guide surface. An inner rotor which is mounted such that it can be rotated eccentrically with respect to the outer rotor is provided. The sliding surface or the inner guide surface has a surface structure which has a load-bearing region and a non-load-bearing region which is depressed in contrast with the former.
