RING GEAR MOUNTING ARRANGEMENT WITH OIL SCAVENGE SCHEME
20180010681 · 2018-01-11 ·

An epicyclic gear train for a turbine engine includes a gutter with an annular channel. A rotating structure includes a ring gear that has an aperture that is axially aligned with the annular channel. Axially spaced apart walls extend radially outward relative to the rotating structure to define a passageway. The passageway is arranged radially between and axially aligned with the aperture and the annular channel. The walls are configured to inhibit an axial flow of an oil passing from the aperture toward the annular channel.

FASTENER COVER FOR FLANGED JOINT

A fastener cover for a flanged joint including first and second annular flanges extending about an axis, comprising: an annular, axially-extending, inboard wall; an annular, axially-extending outboard wall positioned radially outboard of the inboard wall; and a first radial wall interconnecting the inboard and outboard walls, wherein, collectively, the inboard and outboard walls and the first radial wall define a cavity for receiving a portion of a fastener; at least one fastener pocket including sidewalls extending axially away from the first radial wall and defining a tubular shape, which is closed off opposite the first radial wall by a floor plate having a clearance hole passing therethrough for accepting a shank of the fastener; and wherein the cover includes a balance weight receptacle for accepting at least one balance weight.

Pressure seal assembly

A gas turbine engine having a bearing housing with a housing cavity and a shaft rotating about a rotation axis. One or more bearings support the shaft. A housing supporting the bearing and defining a chamber axially adjacent to the bearing. A seal assembly is in the housing between the chamber and an exterior of the chamber. The seal assembly includes a seal supported by the housing and surrounding the shaft so as to define an annular gap between an inner surface of the seal and an outer surface associated to the shaft, the gap defining a part of a sealing path of the seal assembly for air to flow from said exterior into the chamber. An impeller rotates with the shaft and located radially inward of the gap relative to the rotation axis, the impeller oriented to drive oil toward the bearing.

Epicyclic gear train

A gas turbine engine according to an example of the present disclosure includes, among other things, a propulsor section including a propulsor supported on a propulsor shaft, a turbine section including a turbine shaft, a compressor section, and an epicyclic gear train interconnecting the propulsor shaft and the turbine shaft. The gear train includes a sun gear coupled to the turbine shaft, intermediary gears arranged circumferentially about and meshing with the sun gear, a carrier supporting the intermediary gears, and a ring gear including first and second portions each having an inner periphery with teeth intermeshing with the intermediate gears. The first and second portions have axially opposed faces abutting one another at a radial interface. The first and second portions have grooves at the radial interface that form a hole that expels oil through the ring gear.

TURBINE TIP SHROUD REMOVAL FEATURE

A tip shroud, comprising a plurality of tip shoes encircling a rotor assembly, in a turbine may deform due to thermal gradients experienced during operation of the turbine. This can make it difficult to remove the tip shroud during disassembly of the turbine. In an embodiment, to facilitate consistent and reliable removal of the tip shroud during each disassembly of the turbine, one or more, including potentially all, of the tip shoes of a tip shroud may be provided with one or more radially protruding puller hooks. Each puller hook enables an axial force to be transferred by one or more tools to an axially inner surface of the puller hook, to thereby produce axial movement of the tip shoe out of the tip shroud.

An assembly is provided that includes a shaft, a bearing, a stator seal element, a rotor seal element and a shield. The shaft extends along an axis. The bearing supports the shaft and receives lubrication fluid. The stator seal element circumscribes the shaft. The rotor seal element is mounted on the shaft axially between the bearing and the stator seal element. The rotor seal element forms a seal with the stator seal element. The shield substantially prevents the lubrication fluid from traveling axially away from the bearing onto the rotor seal element.

The first and second portions have axially opposed faces abutting one another at a radial interface and respective flanges extending along the radial interface radially outward from the teeth. The first and second portions define a trough axially between and separating the teeth of the first portion from the teeth of the second portion. The first and second portions include facing recesses that form an internal annular cavity along the radial interface.

GAS TURBINE ENGINE GEAR TRAIN

An epicyclic gear train includes a carrier that supports star gears that mesh with a sun gear. A ring gear surrounds and meshes with the star gears. The star gears are supported on respective journal bearings. Each of the journal bearings includes a peripheral journal surface and each of the star gears includes a radially inner journal surface that is in contact with the peripheral journal surface of the respective journal bearing.

Turbocharger compressor oil deflector and method

The inner portion is engaged with a bushing disposed in and connected to the center housing by a retainer. The outer portion is disposed adjacent the inner portion along the rotatable shaft and connected to the rotatable shaft such that it rotates therewith. The outer portion forms an annular channel that extends in a radial direction relative to the rotatable shaft and peripherally around the shaft. An oil deflector is connected to the compressor back-plate and includes a base flange and a raised portion disposed at least partially over the annular channel.
