A fluid injection system for a gas turbine engine may comprise a fluid injector configured to inject a fluid into an exhaust flow exiting a turbine section of the gas turbine engine. The fluid injector may be coupled to a turbine exit guide vane located at a forward end of an exhaust system of the gas turbine engine. The fluid may decrease a temperature of the exhaust flow exiting the turbine section and/or increase a thrust of the gas turbine engine.

The one unit of oxygen to be injected by 4 units of HPW, since air contains 5 units 4 units of nitrogen and 1 unit of oxygen, the 5 units of oxygen are to be injected by 20 units of HPW required for the process. A heat exchanger to be installed at gas turbine exhaust duct to heat the HPW injected into compressor (C) last stages, which is to be mixed with HPW at ambient/atmospheric temperature to cool compressor air outlet temperature to targeted temperature as shown in FIG. 1. A control system is essential to control the process.

Reducing contrails from an aircraft powerplant

A method is provided during which an aircraft powerplant is provided. The aircraft powerplant includes a combustor and a water recovery system. The water recovery system includes a condenser and a reservoir. Fuel is combusted within the combustor to provide combustion products. Water is extracted from the combustion products using the condenser. The water recovery system is operated in one of a plurality of modes based on likelihood of contrail formation. The modes include a first mode and a second mode, where the water is collected within the reservoir during the first mode, and where the water passes through the water recovery system during the second mode.

An improved steam engine is provided for operating on a recirculation of superheated air and steam. A gas turbine is including having a first intake, a first discharge and a power output shaft, said power output shaft providing rotation power output generated from a change in entropy of the gas through the turbine. A power turbine superheats the gas discharge and includes a turbocharger in operational communication with an electric DC motor, and a compressor mechanically driven by the turbocharger. The discharge from the compressor forms the turbine steam intake. A water injection system may be further provided for adding steam to the air recirculating circuit. A drive motor operatively coupled to the turbine may be used for startup to bring the turbine up to operational rotation speeds. A DC generator operatively coupled to recharge a battery driving the drive motor or for providing electrical power output.

A control system for a gas turbine system includes a virtual filter. The virtual filter is configured to receive a power signal of the gas turbine system having a spray intercooler. The virtual filter is configured to substantially remove sensor noise in the power signal and filter transient power changes of the gas turbine system to provide a filtered power signal. The virtual filter is configured to provide the filtered power signal to a controller of the spray intercooler, wherein the controller is configured to control operation of the spray intercooler based on the filtered power signal.

A system for reducing a temperature of an exhaust gas stream of a gas turbine system according to an embodiment includes: a compressor component of a gas turbine system; an airflow generation system for attachment to a rotatable shaft of the gas turbine system, the airflow generation system and the compressor component drawing in an excess flow of air through an air intake section; a mixing area for receiving an exhaust gas stream produced by the gas turbine system; an air extraction system for: extracting at least a portion of the excess flow of air generated by the airflow generation system and the compressor component to provide bypass air; and diverting the bypass air into the mixing area to reduce a temperature of the exhaust gas stream; and a fluid injection system for injecting an atomized fluid into the mixing area to reduce a temperature of the exhaust gas stream.

Methods and apparatus for controlling liquid flow to a turbine fogging array. Some implementations are generally directed toward adjusting the output of a variable output pump that supplies water to the turbine fogging array. In some of those implementations, the output is adjusted based on a determined target pump output value that is indicative of a pump output required to change the moisture content of intake air of a combustion turbine to meet a target humidity value. Some implementations are generally directed toward actuating at least one control valve of a plurality of control valves that control liquid throughput to one or more fogging nozzles of a fogging array.

A method for cooling down a gas turbine, wherein the gas turbine is run down from the power operation thereof to cool-down operation, and wherein a liquid is sprayed into air sucked in by a compressor of the gas turbine during the cool-down operation, and wherein the liquid is sprayed into the sucked-in air in dependence on a humidity of the sucked-in air, a flow velocity of cooling air flowing in the gas turbine in the region of at least one flow-guiding component of the gas turbine, which component is to be cooled, and a temperature difference between a temperature of the sucked-in air and a temperature of the at least one flow-guiding component of the gas turbine.

Intake-air cooling device

An intake-air cooling device is disposed on a rear-stage side of a pre-filter disposed on an intake-air inlet side of an intake-air duct for guiding intake air taken in from an intake-air inlet to a compressor, for cooling the intake air by spraying water to the intake air. The intake-air cooling device includes a plurality of nozzles configured to spray the water to the intake air, a plurality of water conduit pipes including the plurality of nozzles arranged in an axial direction of the plurality of water conduit pipes, and a plurality of supply pumps configured to supply the water to a corresponding one of the plurality of water conduit pipes.
