AIRFOIL ARRANGEMENT FOR A GAS TURBINE ENGINE UTILIZING A SHAPE MEMORY ALLOY
An airfoil arrangement for a gas turbine engine may include a support device using a shape memory alloy to support and control the airfoil. The support device may be formed as part of a fan blade. The arrangement may be configured to reduce overall weight and dimensions of the gas turbine engine.
MECHANICAL SHEAR FUSE FOR ENGINE MOTORING SYSTEM
A motoring system for a gas turbine engine having: a reduction gear train having an input and an output; an electric motor operably connected to the input; a clutch operably connected to the output, the clutch in operation engages and disengages the reduction gear train; and a mechanical shaft fuse operably connecting the output to the clutch, the mechanical shaft fuse in operation shears when torque on the mechanical shaft fuse is greater than or equal to a selected value. The mechanical shaft fuse includes a plurality of through holes.
PINNED MECHANICAL FUSE FOR ENGINE MOTORING SYSTEM
A motoring system for a gas turbine engine having: a reduction gear train having an input and output; a motor operably connected to the input; a clutch operably connected to the output, the clutch in operation engages and disengages the reduction gear train; and a pinned mechanical fuse operably connecting the output to the clutch, the pinned mechanical fuse having at least one shear pin. The pinned mechanical fuse having: an outer sleeve having a first section, second section, inner chamber, outer wall, and at least one through hole connecting the inner chamber to the outer wall within the first section; and an inner sleeve having a first portion, second portion, outer surface, and at least one blind hole located in the outer surface within the second portion. The second portion being located within the inner chamber and operably connected to the outer sleeve through at least one shear pin.
Turbine shroud assembly with forward and aft pin shroud attachment
A turbine shroud assembly adapted for use with a gas turbine engine includes a carrier, a seal segment, and a mount assembly. The carrier is configured to be coupled to a turbine case. The seal segment is shaped to define a gas path boundary of the shroud assembly. The mounting assembly is configured to couple the seal segment to the carrier.
Gas turbine engine turning system
A gas turbine engine (10) includes a compressor section, a turbine section, and an accessory gearbox (100). A turning unit (200) for the gas turbine engine includes an output assembly (204) configured to be mechanically coupled to the gas turbine engine, and an electric motor (202). The electric motor is operable to rotate, through the output assembly, one or more components of the compressor section or the turbine section at a rotational speed less than about fifty revolutions per minute during a shut-down condition of the gas turbine engine.
Method for manufacturing a motoring system for a gas turbine engine
A method of manufacturing a motoring system for a gas turbine having the steps of: assembling a pinned mechanical fuse, the pinned mechanical fuse including at least one shear pin; forming an outer housing; installing a reduction gear train into the outer housing, the reduction gear train having an input and an output; operably connecting a motor to the input; operably connecting a clutch to the output using the pinned mechanical fuse, the clutch in operation engages and disengages the reduction gear train; operably connecting a starter to the clutch, the starter having an output shaft; and operably connecting an accessory gearbox to the output shaft of the starter. The clutch is operably connected to the accessory gearbox through the starter and the output shaft. The at least one shear pin in operation shears when torque on the pinned mechanical fuse is greater than or equal to a selected value.
LUBRICANT PUMP SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR AIRCRAFT ENGINE
Lubricant pump systems and associated methods for aircraft engines are provided. The method includes receiving an input torque, dividing the input torque between a first load path receiving a first portion of the input torque, and a second load path receiving a second portion of the input torque. A first lubricant pump of the aircraft engine is driven via the first load path using the first portion of the input torque. A second lubricant pump of the aircraft engine is driven via the second load path using the second portion of the input torque. When a malfunction of the second lubricant pump occurs, the method includes ceasing to drive the first lubricant pump and the second lubricant pump using the input torque.
AUXILIARY COMPONENT MOUNTING SYSTEM FOR GAS TURBINE ENGINES
An assembly for mounting an auxiliary component to an engine case of a gas turbine includes a support bracket, the support bracket having a first end configured for attachment to a first flange of the engine case, a second end configured for attachment to a second flange of the engine case, and an intermediate portion located intermediate the first end and the second end; a bearing member disposed within the intermediate portion; and a mechanical fuse disposed within the bearing member.
LATERALLY BIASED SYSTEM FOR MOUNTING AUXILIARY COMPONENTS TO GAS TURBINE ENGINES
A mounting assembly for mounting an auxiliary component to an engine case of a gas turbine engine includes a first flange configured for attaching the mounting assembly to the engine case; a second flange configured for attaching the mounting assembly to the auxiliary component; and a mechanical fuse disposed between the first flange and the second flange and configured to shear during an overload event.
