OUTPUT POWER MANAGEMENT FOR ENGINES
Methods and systems for operating an engine are provided. An engine core temperature is monitored. When the engine core temperature is below an engine thermal limit adjusted for a level of deterioration of the engine, an output power of the engine is set in accordance with a reference power based on non-thermal limits of the engine. When the engine core temperature is near or above the engine thermal limit adjusted for the level of deterioration of the engine, the output power of the engine is set to a value lower than the reference power based on non-thermal limits of the engine to reduce the engine core temperature.

Method and control unit for controlling the play of a high-pressure turbine
A method for controlling the clearance between the blade tips of a high-pressure turbine of a gas turbine aircraft engine and a turbine shroud, including the controlling of a valve delivering a stream of air to the turbine shroud, this method further including the following steps: the detection of a transient acceleration phase of the engine; the receiving of an item of data representative of the gas temperature at the outlet of the combustion chamber of the engine; a valve opening command, to deliver the air stream to the turbine shroud or to increase the flow rate of the delivered air stream, if the transient acceleration phase is detected and if the gas temperature at the outlet of the combustion chamber is greater than a first temperature threshold corresponding to a degraded clearance characteristic of an aged engine, this threshold being less than an operating limit temperature of the engine.
THERMAL BIAS CONTROL IN TURBOMACHINES
An engine control system may be configured to perform a method of controlling thermal bias in a turbomachine. An exemplary method may include determining a thermal bias-value for the turbomachine, and performing a cooling treatment based at least in part on the thermal bias-value. The thermal bias-value may include a difference between an upward temperature-value corresponding to a first one or more temperature measurements of an upward portion of the turbomachine and a downward temperature-value corresponding to a second one or more temperature measurements of a downward portion of the turbomachine. The cooling treatment may include at least one of: circulating air through at least a portion of the turbomachine, and rotating a shaft of the turbomachine with a motoring system.
Turbine engine and method of cooling
A method of operating a turbine engine that includes shutting down the turbine engine such that a rotational speed of the turbine engine decreases, and actuating a starter motor of the turbine engine at one of as the rotational speed of the turbine engine decreases or at a preset time after the turbine engine receives a full stop command such that residual heat is exhausted from the turbine engine.
Engine speed optimization as a method to reduce APU fuel consumption
Systems and methods for controlling an auxiliary power unit (APU) are provided. The systems and methods may comprise detecting an operating condition of the APU, determining an optimal APU frequency in response to the operating condition, and setting an angular velocity of the APU to the optimal APU frequency.
OPERATION OF A GAS TURBINE AT A HIGH TEMPERATURE AND GAS TURBINE ASSEMBLY
The disclosure relates to a method for operating a gas turbine at a high temperature and to a gas turbine assembly. In the method, a gas turbine having a structural material and a thermal barrier layer disposed on the structural material is cooled down in a decelerated manner after operation at an operating temperature above 1000° C., so that damage to the structural material and/or the thermal barrier layer is minimized. In this way, the gas turbine can be operated permanently at temperatures above 1500° C.
Method and a system for regulating a temperature associated with a heat exchanger assembly of a turbine engine
A method of regulating a temperature associated with a heat exchanger assembly of a turbine engine, the method includes, in a single cycle: measuring the temperature of an air stream at the outlet from a heat exchanger; receiving a setpoint temperature for the air stream at the outlet from the heat exchanger; estimating a theoretical temperature for the air stream at the outlet from the heat exchanger as a function of an estimate of the shutter position of a controlled valve bleeding off a cooling air stream for the heat exchanger; determining a correction current from the difference between the measured temperature and the theoretical temperature; and determining a control current for the shutter from the difference between the measured temperature and the setpoint temperature and the correction current determined during the preceding cycle, the shutter position being determined from the control and correction currents determined during the preceding cycle.
Method to control electric starter generator for gas turbine engines
A gas turbine engine starting system including an electric start generator (ESG) free of temperature sensors and configured to provide torque to a gas turbine engine. A fuel metering module is configured to provide a quantity of fuel to the gas turbine engine, and an electronic control system (ECS). The ESG includes a plurality of subcomponents. The ECS is configured to predict a future temperature of the ESG, predict that at an ongoing start or an uninitiated start will be unsuccessful, and provide the prediction that at an ongoing start or an uninitiated start will be unsuccessful to an operator. The prediction of the future temperature of the ESG is based on a plurality of historical ESG thermal trending information and an input ambient temperature. The prediction that at an ongoing start or an uninitiated start will be unsuccessful is based on the future temperature of the ESG.
