An abradable powder composition is includes a metal component, a lubricant component, and a polymer component. A portion of the metal component is wrapped in the lubricant component to achieve high lubricity and abradability. The abradable powder composition can be used to form an abradable seal coating provided for use in a turbo machinery having a housing and a wheel having multiple blades. The housing houses the wheel which rotates therein. The seal coating is formed on the inner walls of housing adjacent where the wheel blades pass during their rotation. When the wheel is rotated such that, the blades contact the seal coating, it is abraded to form a close fit gap. The abradable seal coating preferably does not produce significant wear of the blade tips or transfer abradable material significantly to the blade tips upon being abraded.

Low friction, wear resistant variable vane bushing

A variable vane assembly includes a variable vane; a trunnion arranged on one end of the variable vane; a bushing mated to the trunnion to define an interface between the trunnion and the bushing; and a surface modification on at least one of the trunnion and the bushing at the interface, whereby frictional heating at the interface during operation of the assembly is reduced.

Carbon seal assembly

A seal assembly includes a carbon seal that has a sealing surface. A seal seat has a sealing surface and is positioned for rotation relative to the carbon seal. A diamond-like carbon coating at least partially forms the sealing surface on the seal seat.

Variable guide vane assembly and bushing therefor

A gas turbine engine, has: an annular gaspath extending around a central axis, the annular gaspath defined between a first casing and a second casing, the first casing defining pockets; and a variable guide vane assembly having: variable guide vanes circumferentially distributed around the central axis, the variable guide vanes having airfoils extending into the annular gaspath and extending between first and second pivot members at respective first and second ends of the airfoils, the variable guide vanes rotatable about respective spanwise axes, bushings received within the pockets of the first casing, the first pivot members of the variable guide vanes rollingly engaged to the bushings, and resilient members disposed radially between surfaces of the first casing and the bushings relative to the spanwise axes, the resilient members in abutment against both of the surfaces of the first casing and the bushings.

BLADED DISC

A bladed disc for a rotating machine comprising a central disc that rotates about a central axis, the central disc having a series of blades arranged around its periphery; the blades have dovetail roots which engage with slots on the central disc; the bladed disc being configured so that there is a pre-loading force between the blades and the central disc such that each blade is forced away from the central axis of the bladed disc; and wherein the pre-loading force is equal or greater than 40% of the maximum centrifugal force applied to the blade during a flight cycle.

BEARING ELEMENT AND TURBOMACHINE WITH A BEARING ELEMENT

A bearing element for at least one adjustable guide vane of a turbomachine, in particular an aircraft engine, is provided. The bearing element comprising a porous matrix made of carbon and/or graphite and at least one metallic phase or a metal salt that is at least partially arranged inside the pores of the matrix, so that what results is a metal-infiltrated or a metal-salt-infiltrated material.

Outer Airseal Abradable Rub Strip

A blade outer airseal has a body comprising: an inner diameter (ID) surface; an outer diameter (OD) surface; a leading end; and a trailing end. The airseal body has a metallic substrate and a coating system atop the substrate along at least a portion of the inner diameter surface. At least over a first area of the inner diameter surface, the coating system comprises an abradable layer comprising a metallic matrix and a solid lubricant; and the metallic matrix comprises, by weight, ≧35% nickel, 12.0-20.0% cobalt, 5.0-15.0% aluminum, and 5.0-15.0% chromium.
