Method of manufacturing nickel based super alloy parts
There is provided a method of treating a nickel base super alloy (NiSa) article. First, the NiSa article having fine grains is obtained. The NiSa article has a uniform distribution of the fine grains and substantially uniform mechanical properties throughout. One or more regions within the NiSa article are mechanically deformed. Then, the NiSa article is heat treated to obtain coarse grains in the one or more regions, the coarse grains having a size that is larger than that of the fine grains of the NiSa article outside of the one or more regions.
CERAMIC VARIABLE STATOR VANE BUSHING
Systems and methods include providing a stator vane bushing for a variable stator vane assembly having a movable stator vane and a stator vane housing disposed annularly about the movable stator vane. The bushing includes a flange, a barrel extending from the flange, and a central aperture extending through the flange and the barrel and is disposed in the housing and annularly about the stator vane. The bushing is formed from a ceramic material having a coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) lower than or equal to a CTE of one or more of a stator vane and a housing of the variable stator vane assembly.
Environmental barrier coating
An article includes a ceramic-based substrate and a barrier layer on the ceramic-based substrate. The barrier layer includes a matrix phase and a network of gettering particles in the matrix phase. The gettering particles have an average maximum dimension between about 30 and 70 microns. The gettering particles have maximum dimensions that range from about 1 to 100 microns, and a dispersion of barium-magnesium alumino-silicate particles in the matrix phase. A composite material and a method of applying a barrier layer to a substrate are also disclosed.
Hybrid turbine blade for improved engine performance or architecture
A blade has an attachment root and an airfoil, the airfoil having a proximal end and a distal end. The blade has a compositional variation along the airfoil.
Multiple materials and microstructures in cast alloys
Methods for creating a cast component, along with the resulting cast components, are provided. The method may include heating a mold having a cavity therein; supplying a first molten metal material into the cavity of the mold such that the first molten metal material is directed to a first portion of the cavity of the mold; supplying a second molten metal material into the cavity of the mold such that the second molten metal material is directed to a second portion of the cavity of the mold, wherein the first molten metal material is compositionally different than the second molten metal material; and thereafter, allowing the first molten metal material and the second molten metal material to form the cast component.
MULTIPLE MATERIALS AND MICROSTRUCTURES IN CAST ALLOYS
Cast components are provided that include a first section comprising a first metal material and having first grains with a first average grain size and a second section comprising a second metal material and having second grains with a second average grain size.

TURBINE SYSTEMS WITH SEALING COMPONENTS
A turbine system including a sealing component is presented. The sealing component includes a ceramic material. The ceramic material includes grains having an average grain size of less than 10 microns. A turbine shroud assembly including the sealing component is also presented.
Enhanced Blade Tipping For Improved Abradability
An abrasive coating comprising a plurality of first grit particles placed on a top surface of a substrate and spaced to provide channels for the removal of cut chips and rub debris and heat reduction. A plurality of second grit particles are placed between each of the first grit particles, and having a nominal size smaller than the first grit particles. A mixture of the second grit particles to the first grit particles comprises from about 75-98%. The second grit particles form a single layer or multiple layers and comprise height of 10 to 60% of that of the first grit particles. A matrix material is bonded to the top surface; the matrix material envelops the second grit particles and bonds to and partially surrounds the first grit particles. The first grit particles extend above the matrix material and the second grit particles relative to the top surface.
Rotors and Methods of Making the Same
A method of joining a first work piece and a second workpiece. The first and second workpieces may be rotor wheels of a rotor for a turbomachine. At least one of the workpieces includes an oxide dispersion strengthened alloy material and the first and second work pieces may be joined by welding a cladding on at least one of the workpieces to the other of the workpieces, without welding a substrate of the at least one workpiece which includes an oxide dispersion strengthened alloy material.
