Fastener Insert
20230051901 · 2023-02-16 ·

Disclosed is a fastener insert configured to join two components. The fastener insert includes an embeddable shank having an exterior surface and an axial opening. The embeddable shank can be inserted, embedded, and locked into a first component. The exterior surface defines a plurality of lobes extending around said embeddable shank. Each of the plurality of lobes has a leading edge. In some examples, a plurality of grooves of the exterior surface form a chevron groove pattern on each of the plurality of lobes.

Multi-clinch fastener insert

An insert for the attachment of objects to composite or plastic panels consists of two parts, a retainer and an insert. The retainer has a through-hole and knurls on its perimeter for gripping the walls of a receiving hole in the composite or plastic panel. The insert has multiple self-clinching features at increasing diameters which when inserted into the retainer rigidly attach it to the retainer. The panel is rigidly clamped between opposite sides of the panel by an enlarged head of the retainer and an opposing flange on the insert. The self-clinching features of different diameter permit the device to be used with panels of different thickness and allow a large tolerance range. A plain or threaded stud can be substituted for the threaded hole of the insert. Both the retainer and the insert can be metallic.

BLIND RIVET-NUT AND METHOD FOR SECURING A COMPONENT TO A CARRIER
20180003210 · 2018-01-04 · ·

A blind rivet-nut having an annular-flange-like setting head and a hollow shaft for securing a blind rivet-nut in an opening of a carrier. The hollow shaft has a free end having a threaded portion for receiving a threaded element of a tensioning tool. A clamping portion adjacent to the setting head forms a bead-like deformation when the tensioning tool is used to clamp the carrier between the bead-like deformation and the setting head. A threadless shaft portion is formed between the clamping portion and the threaded portion. The threadless shaft portion is threaded by a thread self-rolling or thread self-tapping fastener. The fastener is received in a positive-locking manner when the fastener is screwed into the thread formed on the previously threadless shaft portion. A method is also disclosed for securing a component to a carrier by a blind rivet-nut.

A connector (1) for releasably engaging a slot (10) in a support member (11). The connector (1) includes a body (2) in having a blind bore (20), within which is received a retaining element (3), a threaded insert (4) and a bolt (5) with a shaft (50). The threaded insert (4) provides a threaded hole (40) that receives the shaft (50). The bolt (5) has a head (51) at a first end of the shaft (50) and the retaining element (3) is secured to a second end thereof to inhibit removal of the shaft (50) from the body (2). The shaft (5) has a central threaded portion (55) between the head (51) and the retaining element (3) to engage the threaded hole (40) such that rotation of the body (2) relative to the bolt (5) draws the head (51) toward the body (2) to captivate and clamp an overhang (13) of the slot (10) in the support member (11) between the head (51) and the body (2).

Method of anchoring a connector element, a machine for carrying out the method and a connector element anchoring kit

A method of anchoring a connector element (10) in a receiving object (66) comprises inserting a distal end of the connector element (10) into a mounting hole in an insertion direction along an insertion axis; inserting a sleeve (36) comprising a thermoplastic material into the mounting hole, the sleeve (36) enclosing the connector element (10); and transferring energy to liquefy at least a portion of the thermoplastic material of the sleeve (36). A machine (500) configured for carrying out the method and a connector element anchoring kit comprising a connector element (10) and a sleeve (36) comprising thermoplastic material.
