Fastener-removal method and assembly including a fastener-removal member integrally constructed with a washer member

Fastener-removal method and assembly including a washer member (22) integral with a fastener-removal member (26) are provided. A fastener (16) may be disposed in a through hole (24) in the washer member. The fastener-removal member is arranged to receive a mechanical force effective to remove the fastener. Embodiments of the disclosed assembly are effective for quick removal of relatively high-strength fasteners, as may be used in combustion turbine engines, without having to directly apply torque to structures of the fastener, such as the head of a fastener, and thus reducing the possibility of damage to the fastener during servicing operations of the turbine engine involving fastener removal.

RETENTION WASHERS, PROPELLER RETENTION SYSTEMS, AND RELATED METHODS

Retention washers include a washer body having a first side and a second side opposite the first side. The washer body has a perimeter having one or more lobes, and the retention washer further includes a multi-point star-shaped hole extending through the washer body from the first side to the second side. The retention washer is configured to maintain an installation torque of an installed nut when the retention washer is positioned such that the hole circumscribes the nut. Systems for retaining a propeller assembly on a shaft may include a nut installed on a bolt, and a retention washer positioned such that the hole of the retention washer circumscribes the nut, thereby limiting rotation of the nut with respect to the bolt and retaining the nut on the bolt. The system may include a circular array of nuts and bolts, each nut having a respective retention washer positioned thereon.

PRESS ON RETAINING WASHER FOR FASTENERS

A thin film-retaining washer with custom geometry that may further provide for a simple press-on installation while maintaining retention of fasteners during assembly, shipping, handling, and/or use of associated systems. The present retaining hardware is easily manufactured from sheet or film materials with minimal post-processing and may be scaled and optimized for use with multiple size and style of fasteners. Further, the thickness profile of the thin film retaining hardware facilitates lobe spring deflection to further provide secure retention of the associated fasteners.

CONNECTION UNIT AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING A CONNECTION UNIT

A method for producing a connection unit (1) which has a connector with a connector shaft (6) and a disc (3) which is captively arranged on the connector shaft (6). The disc (3) has an annular disc body (23), the inner contour (33) and outer contour (34) of which have been produced by a plastic deformation of the disc body (23). The inner contour (33) is shaped such that the disc body (23) is fixed on the connector shaft (6). At the same time, the originally non-circular outer contour (34) is shaped so as to be at least substantially circular. The deformation process is carried out by introducing radial deformation forces into the outer circumferential surface (27) of the disc body (23).

Blind bolt and tool combination

A blind bolt and tool is used for fastening a bolt through a hole in a structure when only one side of the structure is accessible. A receiver is formed on the tip end of a bolt shaft opposite from a bolt head. Internal threads are formed within the receiver proximate an outward end, and a hex socket is formed in the inward end of the receiver. External threads and a guide are formed on a tip of the tool, and the external threads mate with the internal threads in the receiver to hold the bolt during installation. A hex key on one end of the tool engages the hex socket in the receiver so that the tool may impose a torque on the bolt when a nut is being tightened on the bolt. In another embodiment, a splined tip is formed on the end of the bolt. The tip is designed to shear off when a sufficient torque is applied. Also, a shim is configured to fit between structures held together by the blind bolt.

Method of installing a fastener into a surface and a washer for use therewith

A method of installing a fastener into a surface without defacement of the surface utilizes an annular washer of a viscoelastic material placed about the shank of the fastener such that, upon driving the fastener into the surface via a driving tool, the fastener head clamps against the washer to cause it to viscoelastically expand radially outwardly from the fastener shank until the inner opening of the washer expands to approximately the diametric dimension of the enlarged head of the fastener, whereupon the washer can be removed from the fastener. The interposition of the washer between the driving tool and the surface protects the surface against defacement.
