Wind turbine pitch bearing with friction enhancing insert layer

A pitch bearing for coupling a rotor blade to a hub of a wind turbine includes an outer race mountable to the hub and an inner race rotatable relative to the outer race and mountable to the rotor blade. The inner race is formed by first and second ring components, each of the first and second ring components having an outer annular face and an inner annular face. The first and second ring components are joined together at the inner annular faces such that the inner annular faces are opposed and opposite each other. A layer of friction enhancing material is inserted/disposed between the opposed inner annular faces, the friction enhancing material including an abrasive particulate component that increases a coefficient of friction to minimize slippage between the first and second ring components.

In another embodiment, an assembly including a first component comprising an aperture; a second component coaxial with respect to the first component; and a bearing disposed axially between the first and second components and at least partially within the aperture of the first component, wherein the first and second components are spaced apart from one another by a distance, D, and wherein the bearing is visible from a side elevation view along the entire distance, D.

Bi-material strip and a method of bonding strips of different materials together
09844836 · 2017-12-19 · ·

A continuous hot bonding method for producing a bi-material strip with a strong bond therebetween is provided. The method comprises sanding a first strip formed of steel; and applying a layer of first particles, typically formed of copper, to the sanded first strip. The method next includes heating the first strip and the layer of the first particles, followed by pressing a second strip formed of an aluminum alloy onto the heated layer of the first particles. The aluminum alloy of the second strip includes tin particles, and the heat causes the second particles to liquefy and dissolve into the melted first particles. The first particles and the second particles bond together to form bond enhancing metal particles, which typically comprise bronze.
