CYLINDER HEAD COVER
A cylinder head cover of plastic for covering a cylinder head of an internal combustion engine is disclosed. The cylinder head cover includes a bearing track including at least two bearing points each having a bearing opening for supporting a camshaft. A bearing ring is provided in at least one of at least one bearing point and a bearing opening. The bearing ring is injected into the plastic of the cylinder head cover. An oil duct that leads to at least one of the two bearing points and serves for bearing lubrication is arranged in the cylinder head cover.
ELECTRICALLY-ACTUATED CAMSHAFT PHASERS WITH TAPERED FEATURES
An electrically-actuated variable camshaft timing (VCT) device, comprising: an input configured to receive rotational force from an electric motor; an output configured to couple with a camshaft of an internal combustion engine; a planet gear having radially outwardly extending gear teeth configured to engage ring gears and a radially-inwardly-facing surface; a planet pin, supporting the planet gear, having an outer surface and an axis of rotation about which the planet gear rotates; and a spring applying force in a substantially axial direction along the axis of rotation that moves the planet gear in a radial direction.
ROLLER HYDRAULIC VALVE LIFTER BEARING
A roller hydraulic valve lifter includes a body having a longitudinal central axis and an interior area defined by an inside surface which has a pair of flat surfaces opposite one another and connected by a pair of walls. A first bore, essentially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis, extends through the flat surfaces. A bearing is disposed partially in the interior area. The bearing includes an outer ring having substantially cylindrical exterior and interior bearing surfaces. A shaft extends through the first bore and the outer ring and between the pair of flat surfaces. A plurality of needle rollers is disposed between and rollingly engage the shaft and the cylindrical inner bearing surface. The shaft and the plurality of needle rollers are manufactured from an AISI 52100 alloy steel that is carbo-nitrided. The shaft and the plurality of needle rollers have a surface hardness of a minimum of HRc 65.
Axially self-positioning radial support bearing
A radial support bearing having a cylindrical cage including a central portion, a first end portion and a second end portion, the central portion defining a plurality of roller pockets, and at least one projection extending radially inwardly from an inner surface of the cage, a plurality of rollers, each roller being disposed in a respective roller pocket, a cylindrical outer sleeve disposed about an outer surface of the cage so that the inner surface of the outer sleeve is adjacent the plurality of rollers, and an o-ring adapted to be axially fixed relative to the shaft. The o-ring is slidably received between the at least one projection of the cage and the central portion of the cage so that the cage is axially fixed with respect to the shaft.
LASER HARDENED CRANKSHAFT
An automotive shaft includes a journal having a crest-to-crest contact surface area defined by and between undercut regions of the shaft, an entirety of the crest-to-crest contact surface area being laser hardened to a depth no greater than 1 mm to form a layer that does not contain unhardened portions.
FOLLOWER MECHANISM
A follower mechanism including an outer cup having a substantially cylindrical side wall, an annular lip portion disposed at a first end of the side wall, and an annular ledge disposed on the side wall, the annular ledge being disposed in a plane that is transverse to a longitudinal center axis of the follower mechanism. An inner cup includes an annular lip extending outwardly therefrom and a pair of shaft apertures, and is disposed in the outer cup so that the lip abuts the annular ledge of the outer cup and is non-rotatably fixed thereto by the annular lip of the outer cup which abuts the lip of the inner cup. A shaft is received in the shaft apertures, and a roller follower is rotatably received on the shaft such that a portion of the roller follower extends axially outwardly beyond the annular lip portion of the outer cup.
Bearing arrangement
A bearing arrangement for a camshaft may include a bearing ring arranged between two functional elements. The bearing ring may be supported with respect to the functional elements via axial front sides. At least one of the axial front sides of the bearing ring and a side of the respective functional elements in sliding contact with the axial front side may have a polymer coating.
Cam follower roller device
The cam follower roller device comprises a body, a shaft mounted on the body, a roller mounted on the shaft and able to rotate, and a plain bearing interposed radially between the shaft and the roller. An outer surface and/or an inner surface of the plain bearing comprise a plurality of cavities. The ratio of the sum of the surfaces areas of the cavities to the total surface area of the outer surface, or of the inner surface, in which the cavities are formed is between 2% and 40%. The cavities have a depth between 0.5 μm and 5 μm.
METHOD FOR PRODUCING A BEARING ASSEMBLY
A method for producing a bearing assembly for mounting a control shaft, for example a camshaft, may include: providing a bearing; arranging at least two rings on respective axial front sides of the bearing; pushing the bearing together with the at least two rings onto an assembly mandrel; pre-tensioning the at least two rings against the respective axial front sides of the bearing; at least one of (i) pushing a shrink hose over the bearing and the at least two rings and heating the shrink hose, and (ii) winding a film strip over the bearing and the at least two rings; and withdrawing the assembly mandrel.
Powder metal alloy composition for sintered powder metal insert for aluminum casting
A powder metal alloy composition is used in the production of a sintered powder metal insert for casting into an aluminum casting. The powder metal alloy composition includes an iron powder metal base, copper such that the copper is 3.5 weight percent or more of the powder metal alloy composition, and carbon in an amount of 0.1 to 1.0 weight percent of the powder metal alloy composition. Upon compacting and sintering the powder metal alloy composition to form the sintered powder metal insert, the sintered powder metal insert has a copper gradient that provides a higher concentration of copper on the surface of the sintered powder metal insert than in a center of the grains of the sintered powder metal insert. The higher concentration of copper at the surface of the insert enables a strong metallurgical bond to be formed with the aluminum casting during casting.
