A vehicle steering system comprises: a motor assembly operably coupled to a steering rack, the motor assembly comprising a motor having a rotor and a motor position sensor configured to sense a rotor angle of the motor in a single-turn range; and a rotary-to-linear conversion mechanism operably coupled between the motor assembly and the steering rack, the rotary-to-linear conversion mechanism comprising a rotor operably coupled to the rotor of the motor. A processor calculates an absolute angular position of the pinion in a full-turn range of rotation of the pinion based on the sensed rotor angle of the motor and a pinion angle sensed by a pinion angle sensor in a single-turn range, or based on the sensed rotor angle of the motor and an angle of the rotor of the rotary-to-linear conversion mechanism sensed by an angular position sensor in the single-turn range.

The ECU for rear electric brake is configured to learn, as a reference point of a piston thrust force, a detection value obtained by the thrust force sensor when the electric motor is driven to move the piston in a direction for pressing the piston against the disc rotor in a range in which the brake pads are not in contact with the disc rotor.

A brake caliper for a disc brake has a caliper body straddling a brake disc. The screw thrust bearing and the gearbox thrust bearing are a same thrust bearing.

The cam disc (108, 108, 108, 208, 308, 408) and the brake plunger (114, 214, 314) have contact surfaces in contact with one another for directly transmitting a drive torque. The contact surface of the cam disc (108, 108, 108, 208, 308, 408) extends at a distance r about the pivot point D, which is defined as a function r() with a change rate r() and depends on the angular position of the cam disc (108, 108, 108, 208, 308, 408). The contact surface is configured to effect non-linear transmission between the drive torque of the cam disc (108, 108, 108, 208, 308, 408) and the force transmitted to the brake plunger (114, 214, 314).

In accordance with an aspect of the disclosure an actuator for a parking brake includes a motor generating power; a reduction gear portion including a driving gear rotating in association with a drive shaft of the motor, and a sun gear coupled to the drive gear to rotate together; a housing in which the motor and the reduction gear portion are accommodated; and a locking portion configured to limit rotation of the reduction gear portion; wherein the locking portion is further configured to a pair of locking members configured to restrain and release at least a part of a rotation shaft of the sun gear, a plurality of elastic members supporting each of the locking members in a direction of the rotation shaft of the sun gear, an electromagnet member configured to separate the pair of locking members from the sun gear by generating an electromagnetic force when the power is applied.

In accordance with an aspect of the disclosure an actuator for a parking brake includes a motor generating power; a reduction gear portion configured to transmit the power of the motor to a parking portion implementing the parking braking of a vehicle; a locking portion configured to limit rotation of the reduction gear portion; and a housing in which the motor, the reduction gear portion, and the locking portion are accommodated; wherein the locking portion is configured to a lock gear coupled to the reduction gear portion to rotate together, a lever provided to be engaged with the lock gear through a hinge motion, an elastic member elastically supporting the lever toward the lock gear, and an electromagnet member that generates electromagnetic force when the power is applied to separate the lever from the lock gear.

Provided in a device for activating a wheel brake of a vehicle, having a tensioning installation which has a spindle drive, are two electric motors, the first electric motor by way of a first gear mechanism acting bi-directionally on the spindle drive. In order for the position of the tensioning installation, once attained, to be fixed in a parking brake, a second electric motor by way of a second gear mechanism, which has a self-locking worm gear mechanism and by way of at least one releasable coupling that acts uni-directionally in the activating direction, is coupled to the spindle drive. The coupling is composed of a cam on an output shaft of the first gear mechanism, and a pin on an output element of the worm gear mechanism. Since the cam cannot be reversed beyond the pin, a latching position of the tensioning installation is defined in this way.
