Electric vehicle drum brake dust evacuation and cooling concept
A drum brake assembly for use with a wheel end electric drive motor arrangement can generate brake dust, which may accumulate on the electric motor and cause heat retention problems that are detrimental to motor performance and longevity. These issues are addressed by providing an assembly including a support attachable to a vehicle axle element, brake shoes pivotally mountable on the support, and a wheel spindle interconnected with one end of the axle element. A wheel hub is rotatable around the spindle, and an electric motor unit is disposed between an end of the axle element and the spindle to produce rotation of the hub relative to the axle element. A brake drum is securable to the hub for rotation with the hub relative to the spindle by way of the electric motor unit. The brake drum includes a circumferential perimeter wall overlying the brake shoes, and a fan rotor is interconnected with that wall for rotation together with the drum and the wheel hub relative to the spindle. A perforated dust shield is attachable to the support on an axial side of the brake shoes opposite the fan rotor, such that, during vehicle operation, air drawn by blades on the fan rotor through openings in a wall of the brake drum carries debris out through perforations in the dust shield and away from the wheel end motor and brake assembly. A vehicle including the assembly mentioned and a process of ventilating that assembly are also discussed.
ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE AND VEHICLE HAVING THE SAME
Disclosed herein an electric parking brake. The electric parking brake according to an embodiment of the disclosure includes a power transmission unit that receives a rotational force from an actuator that generates a driving force for implementing a parking braking force and converts the rotational force into a linear motion to press or release a pair of brake shoes disposed on both sides of an inside of a drum, respectively, wherein the power transmission unit includes a pressing piston configured to press the pair of brake shoes, a driving cylinder configured to guide the pressing piston, and a dust cover installed between the pressing piston and the driving cylinder, the dust cove formed to be deformable according to an operation of the pressing piston, wherein the dust cover is configured to maintain internal airtightness of the power transmission unit and prevent foreign substances from entering.
ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE DEVICE FOR VEHICLE
An electric parking brake device for a vehicle, including: a drum brake arranged on a radially inner side of a rim portion; and an electric actuator which enables obtaining a parking brake state by driving the drum brake, the electric actuator being mounted to a side surface of a back plate on an inner side in a vehicle-width direction. An ice and snow accumulation suppressing member (54) including a wall portion (54a), which extends from the back plate to the inner side in the vehicle-width direction while facing an inner peripheral surface of the rim portion (40b) and which is arranged at least below an anchor portion (21), is mounted to an outer peripheral edge portion of the back plate (13). With this configuration, collision of ice and snow refrozen in a wheel with the electric actuator can be prevented.
