The hydraulic circuitry of a factory installed automatic automotive transmission is modified to include a check ball and spring to limit balance oil to a predetermined pressure applied to first end of the clutch regulator valve. When the onboard automobile computer ramps up solenoid oil pressure applied to the clutch regulator valve through a gain valve that acts on a first end of the clutch regulator valve, this pressure is opposed by a spring as well as clutch balance oil pressure that is routed and applied to a second opposite end of the clutch regulator valve. The arrangement limits the balance oil pressure applied to the second end of the clutch regulator valve to a predetermined maximum value so the onboard computer regulates the clutch up to that predetermined value. When the pressure/force applied to the second end of the clutch regulator valve exceeds the predetermined maximum value, a check ball disposed at the second end of the clutch regulator valve, held in place by a spring, is displaced and unseated from a seat in a valve bore, resulting in the exhaust or leaking of the balance oil applied to the second end of the clutch regulator valve so that the oil pressure applied to the first end of the clutch regulator valve is no longer opposed by the balance oil applied to the second end of the clutch regulator valve, thereby enabling the clutch regulator valve to quickly move in a direction to complete the shift and to hold added engine power during the shift.

UNITIZED VALVE BODY HAVING ANNULUS

A unitized valve body for use in an automatic transmission includes a valve bore and an annulus. The valve bore is configured to receive a valve. The annulus is in fluid communication with the valve bore. The annulus defines an outer portion having an outer diameter and an innermost portion located at an interface between the valve bore and the valve. The outer portion having a first axial length and the innermost portion having a second axial length. The first axial length is greater than the second axial length.

AN ATTACHMENT FOR THE SHIFTER OF A GEARBOX OF A VEHICLE

The invention is a shift lockout guide for a vehicle equipped with a manual gearbox. It includes a user-operable means that, in preferred embodiments, is mounted to the shifter of the gear box and is linked to an engagement portion that interacts with guide plates defining a path of travel for the shifter. A biasing means urges the engagement portion into the guide plates but this can be overridden by the driver through the user-operable means. The invention provides the driver of a vehicle fitted with the invention in the selection of specific gears while also preventing certain other gears from being selected. This reduces the risk of inadvertent overrevving of the vehicle's engine through inappropriate gear selection.

Devices and Methods For Increasing The Strength Of An Automotive Transmission

Methods for modifying certain prior art automatic transmissions to strengthen the transmission and eliminate a tendency of the transmissions to fail as well as components for doing the same. Some aspects also include kits for modifying a transmission to increase the strength of the transmission. In some examples, the hydraulic system of a General Motor's model number 4L80E transmission is modified so that an overrun clutch is engaged in more modes of operation than the original equipment prior art 4L80E transmission in order to minimize a tendency for an overdrive roller clutch to fail.

METHODS AND SYSTEM FOR SHIFTING TRANSMISSIONS WITH DISSIMILAR GEAR CONFIGURATIONS

Methods and systems for generating control instructions for a plurality of transmissions having dissimilar gear configurations via a common software framework are described. In one example, the common software framework provides a graphic interface whereby a user/implementer describes configurations of different transmissions. The software framework generates instructions for different transmission controllers that shift the transmissions.

The hydraulic circuitry of the factory installed automotive automatic transmission of the General Motors Corporation identified as the Allison 1000 and 2000 Series is modified to include a new return spring to decrease clutch pressure and mainline pressure so as not to exceed a predetermined pressure to reduce the time to complete an upshift, to replace the main regulator valve spring to increase main line pressure at road speed based on road conditions, and to provide a new valve with an internal exhaust circuit operatively associated with the TCC (Torque Converter Clutch) to lower balance circuit pressure resulting in the increase of converter clutch apply pressure. The methods and systems for modifying the factory installed transmissions improve the overall operation and efficiency of the transmission during operation of the motor vehicles in which the transmissions are installed.

The present invention solves bore wear due to inefficient design of OEM pressure regulator valve through an improved pressure regulator valve with lands having narrower diameters and longer lengths, the lands additionally having a grooved design, and a second land having a beveled edge to stabilize fluid regulation. Narrower lands allow for better ATF lubrication in a bore. Longer lands allow for the valve to be dropped into a bore to interact with non-damaged lengths of the bore without further machining. The beveled edge regulates pressure, further reducing bore wear.

An arrangement comprising a motor, a transmission, a transmission control unit and an auxillary use. The motor is rotatably connected to the transmission and the auxillary user. The transmission control unit is designed to determine a torque applied to the transmission by using a parameterisable function, wherein the function maps rotational speeds of the motor to a torque applied to the auxillary user at the rotational speed.

The “factory installed” pressure regulator valve of an automotive transmission is replaced by a pressure regulator valve having two separate valve components conjointly movable together in a bore. A protrusion or protuberance extending from the center of one end of one of the valve components defines a fulcrum which abuts against an adjacent end of the other valve component as the two valve components move conjointly and in direct contact with each other within the bore during operation of the pressure regulator valve. Preferably, an opening is provided in a land in one of the valve components to vent hydraulic fluid (transmission oil) to prevent a pressure build-up in the bore which might separate the two valve components from each other during reciprocating movement of the valve components in the bore.

A system and method for an automotive transmission includes one or more restrictor devices that are installed within a valve body of the automotive transmission to improve performance by establishing a flow limit along the compensator circuit. The complex fluid circuits of certain automotive transmissions having eight to ten speeds allow line pressure supply to bleed out during certain critical functions, such as low rotations per minute hot engagements, which can severely damage the transmission. By limiting flow, the line pressure supply can be preserved to prevent the compensator circuit from bleeding out in these critical functions. The instant invention limits flow by replacing the standard compensator valve with a compensator valve that has a larger spool diameter. Flow is further reduce by another restriction device placed along the compensator circuit between the compensator valve and the clutch drums.
