Inching Systems and Methods

A method of operating a machine with at least one hydraulically actuated friction clutch. The method includes selecting, via a mode selector, a starting point defining an initial setting. An endpoint defining a peak setting is selected via the mode selector. A control curve is employed based on at least the selecting of the starting point and the selecting of the endpoint. An inching pedal of the machine is positioned to between 0 percent depressed and 100 percent depressed. At least one control command is generated as a function of the employing of the control curve and the positioning of the inching pedal. At least one control valve of at least one hydraulically actuated friction clutch is operated according to the at least one control command.

Transmission control device

An enhanced control system for an electronic automatic transmission enables the transmission to operate in a full neutral idle, a reverse lock-out, and an inching mode. These functions improve the mileage and durability of the operation of the transmission. They also enable the inching mode for use especially in industrial applications.

There is provided a working machine which is capable of vehicle speed control through accelerator pedal operation even during execution of work under a condition where engine rotational speed is maintained constant. The working machine has the normal mode for exercising vehicle speed control by controlling engine rotational speed on the basis of the amount of depression of the accelerator pedal and by controlling the swash plate of the HST pump on the basis of the engine rotational speed, and the attachment mode for exercising vehicle speed control by controlling the swash plate of the HST pump on the basis of the amount of depression of the accelerator pedal irrespective of engine rotational speed.

Smooth gear change during inching

A method of shifting a transmission in which a clutch, located in the torque flow, in a first gear and in a second gear is controlled in such manner that, in the first gear, the clutch slips and transmits a first torque and, in the second gear, the clutch slips and transmits a second torque. The second torque is chosen such that an output torque of the transmission remains the same when shifting from the first gear to the second gear.

A clutch control system for a work vehicle includes a controller having a memory and a processor. The controller is configured to receive a first signal indicative of a clutch pedal position, to determine an output torque based on the clutch pedal position, and to determine an inching torque for a control clutch based on the output torque and a first gear ratio downstream from the control clutch. The controller is also configured to determine an input torque based on the clutch pedal position, and to determine a launch torque for the control clutch based on the input torque and a second gear ratio upstream of the control clutch. The controller is also configured to determine a clutch control torque for the control clutch based on the inching torque and the launch torque, and to output a second signal indicative of the clutch control torque to the control clutch.

A clutch control system for a work vehicle includes a controller comprising a memory and a processor. The controller is configured to receive a first signal indicative of an inching pedal position and to determine a commanded inching torque based on the inching pedal position. The controller is configured to instruct an inching clutch to achieve the commanded inching torque while the commanded inching torque is less than a threshold inching torque. The controller is configured to instruct the inching clutch to achieve the threshold inching torque while the commanded inching torque is equal to or greater than the threshold inching torque. Herein the threshold inching torque is calculated based at least in part on a gear ratio established by engaging one or more clutches between an engine of the work vehicle and the inching clutch.
