Variable transmissions with nested pulleys

A variety of transmission mechanisms are provided that include split pulleys nested within each other in order to reduce the size of the transmissions, to provide infinitely variable transmission ratios that include forward and reverse ratios, or to provide some other benefits. The transmissions include multiple inner split pulleys nested within an outer split pulley. Two, three, or more inner split pulleys can be disposed within the transmission to balance the mass of the inner split pulleys in order to reduce vibration and internal stresses experienced by the transmission. This can increase the lifespan of the transmission, reduce wear, and increase efficiency. Additionally, providing multiple inner split pulleys in a nested configuration can allow for reduction of loads transmitted through bearings of the transmission.

An extension/contraction mechanism in which an extension/contraction part is able to turn is provided. An extension/contraction mechanism according to one aspect of the present disclosure includes a first drive source connected to a sending/pulling part so as to be able to transmit a drive force, and a second drive source connected to the sending/pulling part and a turning part that rotatably supports the sending/pulling part so as to be able to transmit a drive force via a gear group. When a rotational speed transmitted to the sending/pulling part to rotate the sending/pulling part by the first drive source is equal to a rotational speed transmitted to the sending/pulling part to rotate the sending/pulling part by the second drive source, an extension/contraction part turns via the turning part. When the above rotational speeds are different from each other, the extension/contraction part is extended or contracted.

Entitlement system

In an embodiment, a central repository of rights may be implemented, and accessing entities (e.g. clients) and entities for which access is controlled (e.g. files, servers, etc.) may rely on the central repository. The rights may vary on a client-by-client basis. In an embodiment, the rights may be managed as a value that is interpreted by the access-controlled entity. Accordingly, the definition of access rights may vary based on the entity. In an embodiment, visibility to the access rights may be limited. For example, the central repository may provide a handle that is associated with the access rights, but the access rights themselves may not be provided. When an accessing entity attempts to access the access-controlled entity, the handle may be used to identify the access rights. The handle may be presented to the central repository by the access-controlled entity to confirm access rights.

CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION WITH WEDGE ACTUATION MECHANISM

A continuously variable transmission (CVT comprises a shaft rotatable about an axis, and variator assembly, and an actuator mechanism. The variator assembly includes a pulley supported on the shaft and having a ramp surface, and an endless rotatable device frictionally engaged with the pulley. The ramp surface inclines in an axial direction along the axis toward the endless rotatable device. The CVT further comprises an actuator mechanism that includes a wedge component that has a wedge surface interfacing with the ramp surface, and a rotary piston operatively connected to the wedge component. The rotary piston defines a first fluid chamber pressurizable to apply a rotational force that provides relative motion between the ramp surface and the wedge surface resulting in a wedge force on the ramp surface and a clamping force of the endless rotatable device on the pulley.

A sprocket assembly which is either driven by a drive chain or which drives the drive chain includes a hub centered about a sprocket axis and defining a hub radially outer surface; a plurality of sprocket teeth extending radially outward from the hub; and a cushion ring assembly adjacent to the plurality of sprocket teeth and circumferentially surrounding the hub radially outer surface. The cushion ring assembly includes a cushion ring adjacent to the plurality of sprocket teeth and circumferentially surrounding the hub radially outer surface; the cushion ring being resilient and compliant. The cushion ring assembly also each includes a retention ring which is partially embedded within the cushion ring and which engages the hub radially outer surface in an interference fit, the retention ring providing axial and radial retention of the cushion ring to the hub.
