A noncontacting intershaft seal system includes force generating mechanisms to reduce contact related effects. A sealing system includes an outer shaft that has a hollow interior. An inner shaft extends through the hollow interior of the outer shaft. Spaced apart end plates encircle and rotate with the inner shaft. A gland opening is defined between the inner and outer shafts and between the end plates. A ring is disposed in the gland opening. The end plates and/or the ring include force generating elements that generate force to separate the ring from the end plates, reducing contact related heat generation and wear.

A seal arrangement is disclosed for sealing an interior space between a bearing housing and a rotatable shaft with respect to a surrounding area. The seal arrangement includes a seal body which can be fastened to the bearing housing with a first end and a second end. The seal body is extended in an elongate manner along a main extent direction and is configured to be arranged in an annular manner around the rotatable shaft in a mounted state. The first end and the second end have a common butt joint. A projecting region is arranged at the first end of the seal body and projects tangentially with respect to the rotatable shaft in the direction of a predefined main rotational direction of the rotatable shaft. The projecting region projects beyond the seal body and overlaps the butt joint.

Seal ring

Provided is a seal ring configured so that stable lubrication performance can be provided across a wide range of rotation speed. A seal ring for sealing a clearance between a rotary shaft and a housing includes; inclined grooves formed at a sliding surface so as to be arranged in a circumferential direction, the inclined grooves being closed on an outer diameter side thereof and configured to generate a dynamic pressure; and supply grooves opening on a sealed fluid side and communicating with an inner diameter side of the inclined grooves.

A seal protection mechanism for a shaft seal of a land-based vehicle is described. The seal protection mechanism comprises a fixed part and a rotary part. The fixed part is fixed relative to the vehicle. The rotary part is rotatable relative to the fixed part about an axis. The rotary part is configured to rotate with a shaft about which the shaft seal is disposed. One of the fixed part and the rotary part comprises an axial opening. The other of the fixed part and the rotary part is at least partly received in the axial opening. The fixed part and the rotary part define a passageway. At least one of the fixed part and the rotary part comprises a debris breaking portion. The debris breaking portion is disposed in the passageway. In use, rotation of the rotary part relative to the fixed part causes the debris breaking portion to break apart any debris passing through said passageway towards the shaft seal. The seal protection mechanism therefore acts to protect the shaft seal by breaking apart debris before said debris can reach the shaft seal. This is beneficial because the shaft seal is a vulnerable component which can be damaged by debris.
