NON-CONTACTING SEAL INCLUDING AN INTERFERENCE FIT SEAL RING
A seal assembly (1) for use with a rotating machine that includes a rotating shaft (2) includes a mating ring (16) having a mating ring seal face (17) and a seal ring (14) defining an interior member having an axially extending annular surface and a radially extending seal ring seal face (15). The assembly also includes a first bellows (18) that urges the seal ring toward the mating ring. At least one of the mating and seal ring seal faces includes one or more grooves (202, 206, 210) or surface features formed thereon that cause a gas to be drawn between the mating ring and the seal ring due to relative rotation between the seal ring and the mating ring and form a gas layer between the mating ring and the seal ring that urges the seal ring away from the mating ring. The assembly also includes an annular seal ring shell (22, 24, 62) that keeps the faces flat during operation.
Mechanical seal
A mechanical seal includes a pair of seal rings that rotate relative to each other; and a retainer that holds the seal ring. The retainer includes an annular base portion, an annular holding portion that is externally fitted to an outer periphery of the seal ring, and an annular connection portion that connects the base portion and the annular holding portion in an axial direction, and an annular space partially surrounded by the base portion, the annular connection portion, and the annular holding portion is formed between the outer periphery of the seal ring and an inner periphery of the retainer. The retainer has a plurality of beams which are disposed in the annular space to connect the annular base portion and the annular holding portion.
FACE SEAL CARRIER ARRESTER
A face seal assembly includes a seal carrier, a seal element supported by the seal carrier, a rotating seal plate interactive with the seal element to define a face seal, and a seal arrester configured to engage the seal carrier at a predetermined amount of wear of the seal element to stop wear of the seal element.
PRESSURE RETAINED GASKET SEAL WITH ENHANCED UNLOADING RESISTANCE
A pressure retained gasket seal provides enhanced resistance to hydraulic unloading by including a notch formed in a rear face of the gasket groove, thereby reducing intrusion of process fluid behind the gasket and improving hydraulic retention of the gasket seal. Embodiments increase the process fluid pressure limit of the gasket seal by a factor of two or three compared to gasket seals of the prior art. In embodiments, the gasket groove has a dovetail cross-section, thereby increasing resistance to process fluid pressure by requiring compression of the gasket before it can be dislodged from the groove. Embodiments form the gasket from flexible graphite, which can be initially shaped as an annulus and then forced by an applied load into the gasket groove in conformance with the notch. Embodiments include compressing the graphite to within 50% or even 70% of its maximum density during installation thereof.
Seal runner and method
A seal runner assembly for a gas turbine engine includes a non-rotational annular wear seal, and an annular seal runner having an annular body defining an annular front face contacting the wear seal, the annular body defining an aperture extending axially through the seal runner, the aperture configured for receiving therein a part of a shaft of the gas turbine engine, the seal runner having a plurality of axially-extending slots at locations that are distributed around a wall of the seal runner that extends circumferentially about at least a portion of the annular front face and extends from the front face in a direction away from the wear seal. A method for sealing a gap between a part of a machine and a rotatable shaft of the machine is also provided.
Holding device for application of a sealing element on a shaft
The claimed invention concerns a holding device for application of a sealing member (21) on a shaft (23). The holding device (22) includes a connecting mechanism (26, 27) adapted to connect the sealing member (21) on the shaft (23). The connecting mechanism includes an annular body (24) that comprises an inner surface (24a) which, in an axial direction, is arranged at gradually decreasing radial distance from the shaft (23). The connecting mechanism comprises at least a clamping element (26) arranged in a space between the inner surface (24a) of the annular body and the shaft (23), and a displacement mechanism (27) adapted to displace the clamping member in said axial direction relative to the annular body (24) to a position in which the inner surface (24a) of the annular body presses the clamping element to the shaft. The claimed invention also relates to a mechanical sealing device including such a holding device and a hydrodynamic machine having such a mechanical sealing device for applying a sealing member on a shaft.
Sealing structure
A sealing structure includes an O-ring and a back-up ring. An outer diameter of the back-up ring is smaller than an inner diameter of a mounting portion of a delivery pipe. An inner diameter of the back-up ring is gradually increased from a pressure-receiving surface toward a seating surface, and is greater than an outer diameter of a fuel introducing portion of a fuel injection valve. In a section of the back-up ring, an edge angle defined between the pressure-receiving surface and an inner circumferential surface is smaller than a gap angle defined between the pressure-receiving surface and a tapered outer surface of a tapered portion in the fuel introducing portion. A dimension of the seating surface in the back-up ring is shorter than a dimension in an end surface.
