The turbomachine includes a stator, a rotor including a rotor bearing face, and a face seal assembly including a first segmented seal ring and a second segmented seal ring. The first segmented seal ring includes a plurality of joints and a first flat-contact surface and the second segmented seal ring includes a plurality of segment ends and a second flat-contact surface. One of the first and second segmented seal rings includes a seal bearing face. The second segmented seal ring is coupled to the first segmented seal ring such that the second flat-contact surface is in contact with the first flat-contact surface. The plurality of segment ends is circumferentially offset from the plurality of joints. The first segmented seal ring is slidably coupled to the stator and defines a face seal clearance between the rotor and seal bearing faces.

ROTARY SEALING ARRANGEMENT

A rotary sealing arrangement comprises a housing, a shaft mounted for rotation within the housing about a shaft axis (A) and a rotary seal provided between the housing and the shaft. The rotary seal comprises a static seal element mounted to the housing and a rotary sealing element mounted for rotation with the shaft. The static seal element comprises a mounting part and a flexible lip seal extending from the mounting part in an axial direction relative to the shaft. The rotary seal element comprises a seal body comprising an axially facing sealing face. The lip seal resiliently engages the sealing face of the seal body. The static seal element and the rotary seal element are mounted such that the relative axial positions of the static seal element and the rotary seal element can be adjusted.

A seal arrangement for a gas turbine engine includes a seal runner having a sealing lip extending radially outwardly from a root portion to a tip portion. A static seal is mounted in axially opposed facing relationship to the sealing lip. The static seal and the sealing lip define an axial gap therebetween. A point of flexion is provided in the root portion to allow the sealing lip to flex relative to the axial gap under centrifugal loads, and wherein a center of gravity of the sealing lip is disposed radially outwardly from the point of flexion by a first predetermined amount and axially offset from the point of flexion by a second predetermined amount. The first and second predetermined amounts are selected to modulate the centrifugal flexion of the sealing lip so as to compensate at least partially for thermally induced deformation of the sealing lip.

Mechanical face seal with a rotating counter ring and precisely defined clamping

A mechanical face seal includes a rotating counter ring having a sealing surface and two radial planes. Each of the radial planes is associated with a clamping cam. A stationary face seal ring has a sealing surface opposite from the sealing surface of the counter ring. The sealing surfaces of the counter ring and the face seal ring bear against each other.

Low friction, wear resistant dry face carbon seal—seal seat assembly

A method for preparing a seal assembly for a gas turbine engine, comprising a seal comprising a carbon material; and a seal seat positioned for rotation relative to the seal, wherein the method comprises the steps of: pre-filming a sealing surface of the seal seat with a carbon-based tribofilm; and assembling the seal seat relative to the seal in a gas turbine engine.

Hydrostatic seal

A hydrostatic seal assembly includes a primary seal configured to maintain a selected gap between the primary seal and a rotating component. The primary seal includes a seal support, a seal shoe, and one or more seal beams operably connecting the seal support to the seal shoe. The one or more seal beams are configured as spring elements integral with the seal shoe to allow radial movement of the seal shoe relative to the seal support. A seal carrier including a radial outer wall is configured to radially position the primary seal. The seal carrier is configured for a non-contact relationship with the seal shoe during operation of the hydrostatic seal assembly.

FLEXIBLE SEALING MEMBRANE AND SEAL ASSEMBLY FOR ROTARY SHAFT EQUIPMENT

A flexible sealing membrane for use in a rotary seal. The membrane can be an annular flexible sealing membrane that includes a flange portion, a coaxial portion that is axially fixable relative to a shaft and a flexible connection portion positioned within a radially inward extent of the first flange portion and connecting the first flange portion to the first coaxial portion.
