A labyrinth seal, has: rotating and static components rotatable relative to one another relative to a central axis, the rotating component securable to a shaft via a tight fit engagement at an engagement location on the rotating component, the static component securable to a housing; teeth protruding from one of the rotating and static components towards a seal land defined by the other one of the rotating and static components; and clearances between the teeth and the seal land, a first clearance of the clearances greater than a second clearance of the clearances, the first clearance located closer to the engagement location of the rotating component than the second clearance.

The barrier gas has a pressure higher than a pressure of the volatile liquid in the pump-side seal chamber (43). The pump-side seal chamber (43) is located between an impeller (7) of the pump (1) and the mechanical seal (20). The barrier-gas supply system (32) includes a pressure control valve (50) configured to maintain a constant difference between pressure in the barrier chamber (30) and pressure in the pump-side seal chamber (43).

The oil-repellent surface has a surface texture in which first fine grooves are formed in a predetermined pattern so that an oil-repellent effect can be obtained with respect to the lubricant. The oil film forming surface has a surface texture in which second fine grooves are formed in a predetermined pattern so that an oil film forming effect of a seal lip grease can be obtained.

Double seal lubricated packing gland and rotating sleeve

One or more techniques and/or systems are disclosed for mitigating fluid loss or leakage from a fluid pump with a rotating shaft driving a pumping mechanism. A packing gland component can have an internal seal formed by two dynamic O-rings that allows for use of lubricants at high pressures, as well as an outer seal for greater prevention of fluid loss. Further, the packing gland component can be a retrofit for existing packing gland components to provide for greater life and efficiency as compared to the existing packing gland components. Additionally, in some implementations, a sleeve may be fixedly attached to the rotating shaft between the packing gland and the shaft to provide a wear point for the packing gland.

A portable information handling system main housing portion has a transparent cover removeably coupled at an upper surface and sealed with an inflatable seal to aid desired cooling airflow. A pump fills the inflatable seal after the transparent cover closes over the housing and deflates the inflatable seal before release of the transparent cover to an open position. A strain wave gearing is provided with a lubricant sealing structure that prevents a lubricant from leaking to the outside through a gap between a hollow input shaft and an end plate. The lubricant sealing structure is provided with a labyrinth seal that seals the gap. The labyrinth seal is configured by a plurality of gap portions defined by an oil-repellent surface in which fine grooves are formed in a prescribed groove array pattern. The oil-repellent surface is also formed at an outer peripheral surface portion on an upstream side of the labyrinth seal. Leakage of a lubricant oil to outside of the device can be reliably prevented through the oil-repellent effect of the oil-repellent surface at the upstream side, the sealing effect of the labyrinth seal, and the oil-repellent effect from the oil-repellent surface of the labyrinth seal.

ROTARY MACHINE SYSTEM

A rotary machine system includes: a rotary machine including a gas seal portion; a gas seal device connected to the rotary machine and that supplies a seal gas to the gas seal portion; a pressure sensor that detects a pressure of the seal gas; a vent portion that discharges the seal gas discharged from the gas seal portion; and a vent pressure sensor that detects a pressure in the vent portion. The rotary machine includes: a casing through which a working fluid flows; a rotatable rotary shaft that passes; and the gas seal portion provided between the casing and the rotary shaft and that seals the working fluid by the seal gas having a pressure higher than a pressure of the working fluid in the casing. The gas seal device includes: a pressure regulating valve; and a control part that controls the pressure regulating valve.
