METHOD AND DEVICE FOR PISTON SEAL ANTI-ROTATION

A method of limiting circumferential rotation of a split-ring seal for use in a gas turbine engine includes inserting a retention block through a slot in a flange of a support structure and into a groove configured to hold a split-ring seal, and engaging an end of a split-ring seal in the groove with a surface of the retention block.

Seal rings

A seal ring including a body having an inner surface, an outer surface, and a first side surface, and a tab extending from the body and adapted to prevent rotation of the seal ring relative to a component receiving the tab, wherein the tab extends radially inward beyond the inner surface and axially beyond the first side surface. In an embodiment, the seal ring further includes a relief portion adapted to accommodate a tab of an adjacent sealing ring such that the first side surface of a seal ring directly contacts the second side surface of the adjacent seal ring. In an embodiment, the tab locks the seal ring from rotational movement in relation to a first component.

A piston for an internal combustion engine is provided. The piston includes a piston body including an upper combustion surface, an annular side wall with a ring belt region, and a cooling gallery located within the piston body having a fluid inlet. A piston ring is located in a ring groove around the ring belt region and an alignment pin is secured in a hole in the piston side wall to restrict circumferential displacement of the piston ring. The piston body further includes a boss within the cooling gallery into which the hole and the alignment pin extend. The boss projects into the cooling gallery opposite the fluid inlet and is shaped to provide a flow splitter surface configured to divide cooling fluid flowing through the fluid inlet during use into first and second fluid flows and to direct the first and second fluid flows in opposite directions around the cooling gallery.

Piston assembly for an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle

A piston assembly for an internal combustion engine of a motor includes a piston head having an outer diameter surface spaced a first distance from the longitudinal axis and an annular surface spaced a second distance from the longitudinal axis, with the second distance being less than the first distance. Upper and lower walls extend between the annular surface and the outer diameter surface so as to define an annular groove in the outer diameter surface. A piston ring is received within the annular groove and includes an inner diameter surface facing the annular surface of the piston head. The inner diameter surface of the piston ring and the annular surface of the piston head cooperate with one another to define a plurality of pockets angularly spaced from one another about the longitudinal axis and configured to receive oil.
