VERTICAL-VIA ROTARY VALVES, MICROBIOREACTORS AND APPLICATIONS OF SAME
One aspect of this invention relates to a vertical-via rotary valve including a valve body having a housing; one or more fluidic channels, each fluidic channel having a vertical channel portion defined in the valve body and being adjacent to the housing, wherein a fluid flow through the vertical channel portion is controllable by deforming a sidewall of the vertical channel portion; and an actuator received in the housing and rotatably engaged with the one or more fluidic channels to operably control the fluid flow through the vertical channel portion of each fluid channel.
Diaphragm check valves and methods of manufacture thereof
Microscale valves for use in, e.g., micropump devices, may be formed of a slitted diaphragm bonded to the interior of a valve tube. A bump in the diaphragm and/or a backward-leakage stopper may increase the breakdown pressure of the valve. A push-rod may be used to pre-load the valve membrane to thereby increase the cracking pressure.
Three-way piezoelectrically-actuated microvalve device and method of fabrication
A three-way (3-way) Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS)-based micro-valve device and method of fabrication for the implementation of a three-way MEMS-based micro-valve which uses a single piezoelectric actuator. The present invention has a wide range of applications including medical, industrial control, aerospace, automotive, consumer electronics and products, as well as any application(s) requiring the use of three-way micro-valves for the control of fluids. The present invention allows for the implementation of a three-way microvalve device and method of fabrication that can be tailored to the requirements of a wide range of applications and fluid types. The microvalve may employ a novel pressure-balancing scheme wherein the fluid pressure balances the actuator mechanism so that only a small amount of actuation pressure (or force) is needed to switch the state of the actuator and device from open to closed, or closed to open.

Valved cartridge and system
A method of making an article bonding a layer of deformable material to a surface of a cartridge body having at least one valve body thereon to seal the at least one valve body, the valve body comprising a valve floor and valve walls comprising upper parts, wherein the valve floor is recessed from the surface and the valve walls extend from the surface to the valve floor, and wherein the valve body comprises walls that are curved or sloped in a direction that is non-normal to the plane defined by the surface; and deforming the layer such that upon release of a force causing the deformation, the layer is in contact with the upper parts of the valve walls and is in spaced from the valve floor so as to bias the valve to an open state.
Centrifugal Cassette with Molded Insertable Valves
Provided is a centrifuge cassette assembly (800) for separating a fluid and related method of manufacture. The cassette assembly includes a first chamber, a second chamber (308), a fluidic channel (808) creating a fluid connection between the first chamber and the second chamber, at least one molded insertion valve (600, 700) configured to control the flow of fluid in the fluidic channel and a heating element (802) for actuating the at least one molded valve. Further provided are Normally Open Valves (NOVs) (700) and Normally Closed Valves (NCVs) (600) which are capable of insertion into, and which control the fluid flow of, the centrifuge cassette assembly.
VALVED CARTRIDGE AND SYSTEM
A method of controlling fluid flow in a fluid channel of fluidic cartridge can include closing a valve by actuating a mechanical actuator against the valve to force a deformable layer against walls of a valve body, wherein the valve body comprises a valve inlet and a valve outlet and each of the valve inlet and valve outlet are fluidically coupled to a fluidic channel; releasing the valve by retracting the mechanical actuator away from the valve body; and moving liquid through the valve by applying positive or negative pressure to the fluidic channel.
