A pipe-laying system and method includes assessing an environment and placing of a pipe from an excavator to a trench. The system comprises a frame, a boom assembly, and an implement. The boom assembly includes a large boom and a dipper stick. The implement is detachable coupled to the dipper stick and moveable relative to the dipper stick. The system also includes at least one sensor operable to sense a position or a direction of movement of the large boom, dipper stick, or implement. The system also includes a stereo camera to obtain visual data. A controller is adapted to receive the visual data signal, identify an edge of the pipe, receive a signal from the sensor, associate the visual data with corresponding data, create visual feedback and an input signal the position of the boom assembly.

Apparatus and Method for Installing Subsurface Tubing

An apparatus for installing multiple strands of hose below a surface of terrain is provided. The apparatus comprises a chassis and rotating trenching blade assemblies connected to the chassis. The trenching blade assemblies are configured to dig parallel trenches when the apparatus is pulled along the terrain. Curved hose guides are connected to the chassis in trailing positions behind the trenching blades. Each hose guide receives hose from a hose reel on reel mounts connected to the chassis and deposits the hose into a trench dug by a trenching blade assembly. Trench fillers connected to the chassis trail the hose guides. Each trench filler is aligned with a respective hose guide and comprises a number of blades configured to push soil excavated from a trench back into the trench when the apparatus is pulled along the terrain.

BORE PRESSURIZED PIPE HANDLING SYSTEMS AND METHODS

Techniques for implementing and/or operating a pipe handling system that includes an inboard bore plug assembly and an outboard bore plug assembly, which facilitate plugging a pipe bore in a flexible pipe. The inboard bore plug assembly includes a first inflatable plug having a first inflatable bladder that defines a first fluid cavity and a first inflation port opening and a first inflation fluid port secured within the first inflation port opening. The outboard bore plug assembly includes a second inflatable plug having a second inflatable bladder that defines a second fluid cavity, a second inflation port opening, and a bore port opening, a second inflation fluid port secured within the second inflation port opening, and a bore fluid port secured in the bore port opening to enable the pipe bore in the flexible pipe to be pressurized to an elevated fluid pressure.

Attachment for making up or breaking out pipe

An attachment is described that is configured for attachment to an arm of a piece of heavy construction equipment. The attachment is configured to rotate a section of pipe during break out (i.e. disconnection or disassembly) from another section of pipe and/or make up (i.e. connection or assembly) with another section of pipe. The attachment is configured to break the joint or torque the joint to a predetermined torque value, unthread or thread pipe, and lift the pipe under the power of the heavy construction equipment.

Pipe laying apparatus and method for laying a pipeline

An apparatus and method for laying pipe in a ditch. The apparatus comprises a mobile platform having a longitudinal central axis. A support extends from the mobile platform and includes a cradle. The cradle supports a weight of a pipe segment in alignment with the central longitudinal axis of the mobile platform as the pipe laying apparatus transports the pipe segment to a location where the pipe segment is to be placed and as the pipe laying apparatus offloads the pipe segment at the location where the pipe segment is to be placed in the ditch.

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR EXTRACTING A BURIED PIPE

A method for breaking the friction between a buried pipe section and its surrounding soil. A linear actuator or a pneumatic impact mole pushes on one end of the pipe section while a pipe extractor pulls on the opposing end of the pipe section. In an alternative embodiment, a device is used to excite the pipe section's natural vibrational frequency while a pipe extractor pulls on one end of the pipe section. After the friction between the pipe section and its surrounding soil is broken, the pipe extractor may remove the pipe section from its borehole. In another embodiment, the pipe section may be cut into smaller sections and each section may be individually removed from the ground using a pipe extractor. Alternatively, the smaller pipe sections may be individually loosened from the surrounding soil and then rejoined before being removed from the ground by a pipe extractor.

PIPELAYER MACHINE WITH REAR ENGINE CONFIGURATION

A pipelayer machine may comprise a machine chassis; an operator cabin supported by the machine chassis; an engine supported by the machine chassis; and a boom coupled to the machine chassis. The operator cabin may include a seat assembly. The operator cabin may be stationary with respect to the machine chassis. The pipelayer machine may comprise a front portion and a rear portion. The engine may be provided in the rear portion. The boom may be provided forward with respect to the seat assembly.

PIPELAYER MACHINE WITH FORWARD TOWING WINCH CONFIGURATION

A pipelayer machine may comprise a machine chassis; a towing winch assembly coupled to the machine chassis; an operator cabin supported by the machine chassis; an engine supported by the machine chassis; and a boom coupled to the machine chassis. The pipelayer machine may comprise a front portion and a rear portion. The towing winch assembly may be provided in the front portion of the pipelayer machine. The operator cabin may be provided between the towing winch assembly and the engine.

Apparatus and Method for Transporting and Laying Pipe for a Pipeline
20230204130 · 2023-06-29 ·

A programmable and remotely operated and controlled pipe laying apparatus and method of using it for transporting and laying pipe for a pipeline, that can receive, hold, transfer and/or transport and unload pipe in a ditch or other tight space otherwise requiring a side boom. The apparatus has a mobile platform with a longitudinal central axis. A support extends in an extensible manner from the mobile platform and aligns the weight of the pipe with that longitudinal central axis. A pipe holder is associated with the support to facilitate the receiving, holding, transferring and unloading of the pipe on the mobile platform. The apparatuses can cooperate and work in tandem to carry larger and heavier pipe than a single apparatus can handle.

Pipe deployment reel adapter shaft systems and methods

Techniques for implementing a pipe deployment system that includes a pipe reel, in which the pipe reel includes reel ends and a reel drum and the pipe reel enables a pipe segment to be wrapped on the reel drum. The pipe deployment system includes a brake assembly with a brake wheel having a shaft socket keyed with flat inner surfaces, and a shaft adapter assembly, which includes an adapter head to be coupled between the pipe reel and the brake assembly. The adapter head includes an adapter shaft keyed with flat outer surfaces, in which the adapter shaft matingly interlocks with the shaft socket and is to be partially inserted through a reel end of the pipe reel, and a rotation control pin coupled to the adapter shaft, in which the rotation control pin is to be inserted between adjacent reel spokes in the reel end of the pipe reel.
