Method and a system for monitoring a lubricated mechanical system
11691762 · 2023-07-04 · ·

A method and a system for monitoring a mechanical system, the mechanical system including a lubrication system provided with a reservoir containing a lubricating liquid, with a lubrication circuit designed to lubricate the mechanical system, as well as with a particle detection device arranged in the lubrication circuit. The detection device makes it possible, in particular, to count the number of particles flowing through the lubrication circuit and/or the flow rate of the particles. Comparing that number or that flow rate with a first threshold makes it possible to determine a risk of damage affecting the mechanical system and to anticipate the maintenance or reinforced monitoring operations that possibly need to be performed.

Magnetic chip detector

Magnetic chip detectors for detecting magnetic chips in a lubrication fluid are provided. The chip detector includes a first electric terminal, a second electric terminal and a magnet. The second electric terminal is spaced apart from the first electric terminal to define a gap between the first and second electric terminals. The gap exposes a cavity formed in the magnet for collecting magnetic chips. The cavity accommodates the accumulation of smaller and relatively harmless magnetic chips without triggering an alarm to reduce the occurrence of nuisance alarms.

A debris sensor may include a body including a first end and a second end, a ferrous particle sensor connected to the body, and a magnetic chip collector connected to the body at a position closer to the second end than the ferrous particle sensor. A plurality of magnets may be disposed closer to the second end than the magnetic chip collector. A non-ferrous particle sensor may be connected to the body and the non-ferrous particle sensor may be disposed closer to the second end than the plurality of magnets.
