Control system for adjusting the temperature of bearing oil for the purpose of minimizing rotor vibrations

The invention relates to a control system for reducing rotor vibrations, in particular the variability thereof, in shafting, in particular turbine shafting, in which the temperature of the bearing (6) of the shaft is measured and the oil (8) supplied to the bearing is adjusted to a temperature as is assigned as the output variable in an allocation for minimised rotor vibrations with the measured temperature of the bearing as the input variable. The allocation can, for example, be provided by an initial measurement of the rotor vibrations or by a self-learning system. According to the invention, the variability of the rotor vibrations is restricted.

Method and control unit for operating a diesel internal combustion engine or a dual-fuel internal combustion engine operated in the diesel mode

A method for operating an internal combustion engine wherein the internal combustion engine to be operated is supplied with lubricating oil via an oil circuit. A measurement value of a total base number and/or a measurement value of the viscosity of the lubricating oil currently used in the oil circuit for the lubrication is detected. Dependent on the established measurement value of the total base number and/or dependent on the established measurement value of the viscosity an exchange oil quantity for the oil circuit is determined. Currently used lubricating oil to an extent corresponding to the exchange oil quantity is removed from the oil circuit. New lubricating oil to an extent corresponding to the exchange oil quantity is supplied to the oil circuit.

IDENTIFYING VISCOSITY GRADE AND NEW OIL STATUS BASED ON DIELECTRIC AND VISCOSITY SENSOR

A lubrication system for an internal combustion engine and a method of monitoring the lubrication system are described. The lubrication system generally circulates lubricant from a sump (i.e., a reservoir), through a filtration system, to the internal combustion engine, and back to the sump. The lubrication system includes a controller that monitors a dielectric constant of the lubricant and a viscosity of the lubricant. Based on the dielectric constant, the controller can determine whether the lubricant flowing through the lubrication system is new lubricant (e.g., recently replaced lubricant) or old lubricant (e.g., lubricant that has degraded enough to be distinguished from new lubricant). If old lubricant is identified, the viscosity of the lubricant is compared against threshold viscosities to dynamically determine when the lubricant requires replacement.
