Water heater and boiler processes

A pre-startup control method for a boiler or water heater includes: providing a controller operatively coupled to a boiler or water heater unit; performing a unit shutdown operation; enabling a pre-start up mode; at about a same time or in any order, moving an air fuel valve by a controller to a non-off position with a gas supply to the water heater or boiler turned off, wherein the controller turns on a blower at an operational level, and causes an ignitor to spark; and displaying parameters which allow an affirmation of a safe and reliable ignition prior to a gas turn on of the boiler or water heater unit. A flow balancing method and a programmed auto run method are also described.

Systems and methods for dynamic boiler control

Systems and methods for dynamic boiler control are disclosed. The system can receive flue gas data from a flue gas sensor and can receive blower data associated with a blower of the boiler. The system can determine, based at least in part on the blower data, a current fire status of the boiler and can provide one or more fire-status-specific parameters based on the current fire status of the boiler. The system can compare the flue gas data to a target flue gas value, and in response to determining that the flue gas data is less than the target flue gas value, the system can execute one or more boiler operation rules using the one or more fire-status-specific parameters. The system can output instructions for adjustment of an air-fuel ratio of the boiler based on the boiler operation rules and the one or more fire-status-specific parameters.

Systems and methods for real-time steam quality estimation

A system and method for estimating steam quality for a steam generator is provided which involves obtaining raw measurement values for process variables of the steam generator from sensors coupled to the steam generator; receiving the raw measurement values and slow-rate steam quality samples in order to determine a steam quality estimate, using a measurement module to receive the raw measurement values and determine model input values and a robustness index; using an estimator module to determines a raw steam quality estimate using the model input values and a model that is selected from several models depending on reliability of some of the raw measurements; and using a corrector module to determine the steam quality estimate using the raw steam quality estimate, robustness index, and slow-rate steam quality samples. An output receives the steam quality estimate and can provide the steam quality estimate to another device.
