The at least one burner has a first channel to inject a stream of oxidizer, a second channel to inject a stream of the hydrocarbon feed and a third channel to inject a stream of swirl gas at a first velocity into the hydrocarbon feed stream. The control system regulates the length of the flame to have a constant flame shape and position by regulating the first velocity of the swirl gas that generates the swirl motion within the hydrocarbon feed stream.
FLAME MONITOR
To grasp a state of a combustion apparatus based on a flame state of a burner, a discharge number measurement unit measures the number of discharges of a flame sensor per unit time, and a light emission information generation unit generates, as light emission information, information obtained based on a value obtained by dividing a total (accumulation) of the number of discharges per unit time measured by the discharge number measurement unit by a total measurement time, and a display unit displays the light emission information generated by the light emission information generation unit. Since the light emission information corresponds to a combustion amount, a change in a combustion state is capable of being grasped more finely by confirming a change in the light emission information displayed on the display unit, and a fine abnormality in a combustion apparatus is capable of being detected.

The optical sensor interrogator including an interferometer configured to determine interferometric data associated with the flame based on light transmitted and reflected via a first optical fiber and a spectrometer configured to determine spectral data associated with the flame based on light transmitted via a second optical fiber.
FUEL SUBMETERING USING FIRING RATE SIGNALS
A fuel sub-metering mechanism for appliances that consume fuel. Each appliance may have a firing rate indicator. An individual fuel line may be connected to each appliance. A main fuel line may be connected to individual fuel lines. A meter may be connected to the main fuel line. A processor may be connected to the firing rate indicators and to the meter. The meter may measure total fuel consumption by the appliances. The processor may provide a sub-meter estimate of fuel consumed by each appliance. The sub-meter estimate may be based at least in part on a firing rate of the respective appliance and the total fuel consumption as indicated by the meter.
Flame sensing system
This invention relates to the field of sensing flames in equipment using a combustion burner such as gas furnaces by using the electrical properties of flames. In a first group of embodiments flame rectification is used to cause distortion of a signal having a selected waveform. A harmonic of the distorted waveform is detected thereby providing flame proof. In a second group of embodiments flame rectification is used as a mixer to cause two signals having selected waveforms to produce sum and difference signals. The sum and/or difference signals are detected thereby providing flame proof.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR CONTROLLING A HEAT TRANSFER SYSTEM
A flame sensing system, a flame sensing unit, and a method for sensing a flame are described. The flame sensing system includes a flame sense probe and a power regulating device. The power regulating device is configured to generate a regulated voltage from an input voltage received from a power source and to output the regulated voltage to the flame sense probe such that a flame current along a flame can be measured. The flame sensing system also includes a flame current detector to measure the flame current and generate an output voltage corresponding to the flame current, and a first level detector to generate a flame strength output signal based on the output voltage, where the flame strength output signal is indicative of a strength of a flame.
