A method for controlling a gas turbine assembly includes: a compressor in which compression of the outside air occurs for producing a flow of compressed air; a sequential combustor including a first combustor, in which combustion of a mixture of fuel and compressed air arriving from the compressor occurs for producing a flow of hot gasses, and a second combustor which is located downstream of the first combustor and in which combustion of a mixture of fuel and hot gasses arriving from the first combustor occurs; an intermediate turbine in which a partial expansion of the hot gasses arriving from the first combustor occurs; and a second combustor in which combustion of a mixture of fuel and hot gasses arriving from the intermediate turbine occurs; the method further includes, on a start-up transient operating phase of the gas turbine assembly, the step of controlling the fuel mass flow-rate supplied to the first and/or the second combustor on the basis of the flame temperature inside the first combustor.

A micromixer injector includes a fuel plenum to receive a supply of fuel. A plurality of premixing tubes extend through the fuel plenum. Each tube has a plurality of fuel holes formed therein to receive the supply of fuel for mixing with air in the tube. The micromixer has a tapering profile such that an overall inlet area of the plurality of premixing tubes on an upstream face of the micromixer is larger than an overall outlet area of the plurality of premixing tubes on a downstream face such that the plurality of premixing tubes are relatively spaced-apart at the upstream face and more densely packed at the downstream face. Additionally, an air inlet of each tube has a first geometrical shape and the outlet of each tube has a second geometrical shape that is different from the first geometrical shape.

DUCTING ARRANGEMENT WITH INJECTOR ASSEMBLIES ARRANGED IN AN EXPANDING CROSS-SECTIONAL AREA OF A DOWNSTREAM COMBUSTION STAGE IN A GAS TURBINE ENGINE

A ducting arrangement (10) in a combustion stage downstream of a main combustion stage of a gas turbine engine is provided. A duct (18) is fluidly coupled to receive a cross-flow of combustion gases from the main combustion stage. Duct (18) includes a duct segment (23) with an expanding cross-sectional area (24) where one or more injector assemblies (26) are disposed. Injector assembly (26) includes one or more reactant-guiding structures (27) arranged to deliver a flow of reactants into the downstream combustion stage to be mixed with the cross-flow of combustion gases. Disclosed injector assemblies are arranged in expanding cross-sectional area (24) to reduce total pressure loss while providing an effective level of mixing of the injected reactants with the passing cross-flow. Respective duct components or the entire ducting arrangement may be formed as a unitized structure, such as a single piece using a rapid manufacturing technology, such as 3D Printing/Additive Manufacturing (AM) technologies.

Gas turbine load/unload path control

A loading/unloading method for a gas turbine system is disclosed. The gas turbine system includes a combustion section featuring a primary combustion stage with a first plurality of fuel nozzles and a downstream, secondary combustion stage with a second plurality of fuel nozzles. For loading, the method progresses through each of a plurality of progressive combustion modes that sequentially activate a higher number of at least one of the first or second plurality of fuel nozzles; and for unloading, the method progresses through each of a plurality of progressive combustion modes that sequentially activate a lower number of at least one of the first or second plurality of fuel nozzles. During each combustion mode, regardless of whether loading or unloading, a primary combustion stage exit temperature of a combustion gas flow is controlled to be within a predefined target range corresponding to the respective combustion mode.

The invention relates to a burner arrangement for using in a single combustion chamber or in a can-combustor comprising a center body burner located upstream of a combustion zone, an annular duct with a cross section area, intermediate lobes which are arranged in circumferential direction and in longitudinal direction of the center body. The lobes being actively connected to the cross section area of the annular duct, wherein a cooling air is guided through a number of pipes within the lobes to the center body and cools beforehand at least the front section of the center body based on impingement cooling. Subsequently, the impingement cooling air cools the middle and back face of the center body based on convective and/or effusion cooling. At least the back face of the center body includes on the inside at least one damper.

A method of operating a combustor of a gas turbine, the combustor including a combustor liner that defines a total combustion chamber volume, and has a primary combustion zone defining a primary volume. The combustor liner includes a movable portion that is arranged to be actuated to adjust a percentage of the primary volume with respect to the total combustion chamber volume. The method includes, at a first operating state of the gas turbine, adjusting a size of the primary volume to a first percentage of the total combustion chamber volume by actuating the movable portion to adjust the size of the primary volume, and at a second operating state of the gas turbine different from the first operating state, adjusting the size of the primary volume to a second percentage of the total combustion chamber volume by actuating the movable portion to adjust the size of the primary volume.

The present disclosure is directed to an integrated combustor nozzle for a segmented annular combustion system. The integrated combustor nozzle includes an outer liner segment, an inner liner segment, and a fuel injection panel extending radially between the outer liner segment and the inner liner segment. The fuel injection panel includes a first side wall, a second side wall, and a plurality of premixing channels between the first and second side walls, each of the premixing channels having an outlet on one of the first and second side walls. The aft end of the fuel injection panel defines a turbine nozzle.

A cross-flow guiding structure (54) may further define a flow path (58) to route a portion of the cross-flow of combustion gases toward an outlet side of the cross-flow guiding structure. Disclosed injector assemblies can be configured to reduce pressure loss while providing an effective level of mixing of the injected reactants with the passing cross-flow.
