A system including: an active magnetic regenerative refrigerator apparatus that includes a high magnetic field section in which a hydrogen heat transfer fluid can flow from a cold side to a hot side through at least one magnetized bed of at least one magnetic refrigerant, and a low magnetic field or demagnetized section in which the hydrogen heat transfer fluid can flow from a hot side to a cold side through the demagnetized bed; a first conduit fluidly coupled between the cold side of the low magnetic field or demagnetized section and the cold side of the high magnetic field section; and a second conduit fluid coupled to the first conduit, an expander and at least one liquefied hydrogen storage module.

A cooling system for electrical and optical devices includes an electrocaloric cooler (EEC). A fluid circuit is in thermal communication with the EEC to dump heat from a working fluid of the fluid circuit into the EEC. The system can include a second EEC, a second fluid circuit in thermal communication with the second EEC to dump heat from a working fluid of the second fluid circuit into the EEC, and a second heat sink in thermal communication with the second fluid circuit to dump heat into the working fluid of the second fluid circuit. The second EEC, second fluid circuit, and second heat sink can be cascaded with the first EEC, first heat sink, and first fluid circuit wherein the second heat sink is in thermal communication with the first EEC to accept heat therefrom.

The invention is particularly suitable for the production of a cryogenic liquid and the applications thereof.

The present invention relates to a cryogen-gas liquefaction system (1) and method comprising: a storage container (2) comprising a liquid storage portion (3) and a neck portion (4) with a liquefaction region (8) above said bath (7); a coldhead (9) arranged at the neck portion (4) comprising one or more refrigeration stages (10, 11); a gas intake module (12) containing an amount of gas-phase cryogen for its introduction into the storage container (2); and a pressure control mechanism (13) for controlling the cryogen gas pressure within the liquefaction region (8) of the storage container (2). Advantageously, the coldhead (9) further comprises: a refrigeration compressor (17) for distributing gas-phase cryogen inside the coldhead (9); one or more extraction orifices (22) communicating a gas circulation circuit inside the coldhead (9) with the external region of the refrigeration stages (10, 11), acting as pass-through ports (23); and a gas injection source (19) connected with the gas circulation circuit of said refrigeration compressor (17) through a gas injection valve (20), that maintains a total amount of gas constant in the compressor gas circuit, to compensate for the amount of gas extracted and liquefied through the extraction orifices (22).

A process for liquefying a process gas comprising: introducing a heat transfer fluid into an active magnetic regenerative refrigerator apparatus that comprises (i) a high magnetic field section in which the heat transfer fluid flows from a cold side to a hot side through at least one magnetized bed of at least one magnetic refrigerant, (ii) a first no heat transfer fluid flow section in which the bed is demagnetized, (iii) a low magnetic or demagnetized field section in which the heat transfer fluid flows from a hot side to a cold side through the demagnetized bed, and (iv) a second no heat transfer fluid flow section in which the bed is magnetized; continuously diverting a bypass portion of the heat transfer fluid from the cold side of the low magnetic or demagnetized field section into a bypass flow heat exchanger at a first cold inlet temperature; and continuously introducing the process gas into the bypass flow heat exchanger at a first hot inlet temperature and discharging the process gas or liquid from the bypass flow heat exchanger at a first cold exit temperature; wherein the temperature difference between bypass heat transfer first cold inlet temperature and the process gas first cold exit temperature is 1 to 5 K.

The filling station (1) for means of transport (4) comprises: a supply (2) of a methane pipeline transporting gaseous methane; a liquefaction assembly (A) connected in a fluid-operated manner to the supply (2) and adapted to liquefy the gaseous methane conveyed by the methane pipeline to obtain liquid methane; at least one dispenser (3) of the liquid methane, which is connected in a fluid-operated manner to the liquefaction assembly (A) and is connectable in a removable manner to a means of transport (4) to supply the means of transport (4) with the liquid methane.
