ENHANCEMENTS TO A MODERATE PRESSURE NITROGEN AND ARGON PRODUCING CRYOGENIC AIR SEPARATION UNIT
Enhancements to the distillation column system and cycles for an argon and nitrogen producing cryogenic air separation unit are provided. The enhancements include systems and methods for: (i) recovery of xenon and krypton; (ii) production of oxygen product substantially free of hydrocarbons; and (iii) improvement in the design and performance of the super-stage argon column. The present systems and methods are further characterized in an oxygen enriched stream from the lower pressure column of the air separation unit is an oxygen enriched condensing medium used in the argon condenser.
KRYPTON RECOVERY AND PURIFICATION FROM CUSTOMER PROCESSING
Embodiments of a krypton recovery method and apparatus are provided. The method and apparatus involves removing contaminants from a krypton containing waste gas to yield a krypton containing effluent gas; compressing and cooling the krypton containing effluent gas to yield a nearly saturated vapor krypton containing effluent. The krypton containing vapor effluent.is partially condensed in a reboiler and the resulting stream is rectified in a crude distillation column to yield the crude krypton. The crude krypton to further refined is a separate cryogenic distillation system and process to produce a refined krypton product.
System and method for rare gas recovery
A system and method for argon and nitrogen extraction and liquefaction from a low-pressure tail gas of an ammonia production plant is provided. The preferred tail gas of the ammonia production plant comprises methane, nitrogen, argon, and hydrogen. The disclosed system and method provides for the methane rejection via rectification and hydrogen rejection by way of a side stripper column or phase separator. The resulting nitrogen and argon containing stream is separated and liquefied in a double column distillation system.
Device and method for purifying a gas mixture
Device and method for purifying a gas mixture to produce a concentrated gas, notably neon, starting from a mixture comprising neon, said device including, in a cold box housing a cryogenic purification circuit comprising, in series, at least one unit for purifying the mixture by cryogenic adsorption at a temperature between 65K and 100K and notably 65K, then a unit for cooling the mixture to a temperature between 25 and 65 K and then a unit for cryogenic distillation of the mixture to produce the concentrated liquid at the outlet of the cryogenic distillation unit, characterized in that the unit for cooling the mixture to a temperature between 25 and 65 K comprises at least one cryocooler that extracts thermal power from the mixture via a heat exchanger.

Cryogenic Neon Purification System and Method
A feed gas including neon, nitrogen, and helium is cooled in a heat exchange system to a first temperature to produce a two-phase mixture that is introduced into a first phase separator and separated into a nitrogen-rich liquid and a first gaseous crude neon stream. The pressure is reduced in at least a portion of the nitrogen-rich liquid, which is vaporized in the heat exchange system to generate a portion of the refrigeration therein. The first gaseous crude neon stream is introduced into a first adsorber that removes impurities such as nitrogen. The gaseous crude neon stream is further cooled to a second temperature. A portion of the cooling duty may come from the heat exchange system and another portion may come from a cryocooler to produce a two-phase stream. The two-phase stream is separated in a second phase separator into a crude helium vapor stream and a crude neon liquid stream with the latter being introduced into a distillation column to produce a vent stream containing a helium impurity and a pure liquid neon product. The pure liquid neon product is vaporized in the heat exchange system to generate refrigeration and produce the pure gaseous neon product.
Gas purification method and device
Disclosed is a method for purifying a main gas, in particular helium, from a source gas stream comprising the main gas, a main impurity, in particular nitrogen, and optionally another, secondary impurity, in particular oxygen, the method comprising a step of partial condensation of the gas stream in order to extract therefrom impurities in liquid form, in particular the main impurity, and to produce a gas stream enriched with main gas, characterized in that the method comprises, before the partial condensation step, a step of injecting into the gas stream a compound in which the main impurity of the gas to be treated is soluble and having a saturation vapor pressure lower than the saturation vapor pressure of the main impurity.
