Hybrid continuous flow grain dryer

Grain flow paths have an upper portion which is a mixed flow portion and which includes a preheat zone and a lower portion which is an undulating moisture equalizer portion and which includes a heat zone. Mixed flow grain diverters extend across the grain flow path substantially perpendicular to longitudinal side walls, and substantially parallel to transverse end walls of the grain flow path. Upper airflow openings are associated with each of the upper diverters. Moisture equalizer lower grain diverters extend along the longitudinal sides grain flow path substantially parallel to the longitudinal side walls, and substantially perpendicular to the transverse end walls of the grain flow path. The burner is positioned outside the airflow path to feed ambient air into the recirculating airflow path, without recirculating airflow passing through the burner.

An apparatus for drying or conditioning bulk solids, includes a housing including an inlet for receiving the bulk solids, and an outlet for discharging the bulk solids, a plurality of spaced apart heat transfer plates assemblies disposed in the housing between the inlet and the outlet for passage of the bulk solids that flow from the inlet, through spaces between the heat transfer plates, and a sweep gas delivery system for the flow of sweep gas in a first direction across the direction of flow of the bulk solids. The sweep gas delivery system includes at least one valve for reversing the flow of the sweep gas from the first direction to a second direction, opposite to the first direction.

THERMAL PROCESSING OF BULK SOLIDS

An apparatus for drying or conditioning bulk solids, includes a housing including an inlet for receiving the bulk solids, and an outlet for discharging the bulk solids, a plurality of spaced apart heat transfer plates assemblies disposed in the housing between the inlet and the outlet for passage of the bulk solids that flow from the inlet, through spaces between the heat transfer plates, and a sweep gas delivery system for the flow of sweep gas in a first direction across the direction of flow of the bulk solids. The sweep gas delivery system includes at least one valve for reversing the flow of the sweep gas from the first direction to a second direction, opposite to the first direction.

There is provided a multi-module counterflow drying apparatus (100) for drying material, the apparatus (100) comprising: a material inlet (102); a material outlet (104); a heat inlet (108) for inputting heat to the apparatus such that the heat traverses the apparatus in the opposite direction than the material; and a plurality of mutually interchangeable modules (110) stacked on top of each other, wherein the material is configured to move in the apparatus from one module to another such that the movement direction of the material in a given module is opposite to the movement direction of the material in a module above or below, wherein each module (110) comprises: movable paddles (210) configured to discontinuously move the material forward in the module (110).
