A system and method is provided for determining a speed of a belt moving along a transport axis in conveyor oven tunnel. The method includes providing a sensor module, capturing signals, processing the signals, and outputting least one speed estimate. The sensor module is disposed upon the moving belt. The sensor module includes a first optical sensor and a second optical sensor. The optical sensors are spaced apart by a distance D along the transport axis. Capturing signals includes capturing first and second signals from the first and second sensors respectively as they are transported along the belt and within the oven tunnel. Processing the signals includes determining a delay ΔT between the signals. The speed estimate is based upon D divided by ΔT.

Automatic quick response temperature measurement for rotary kilns

A device for measuring the temperature in a rotary kiln through which solid material passes being heated to elevated temperatures. The device features a drive as well as an elongated hollow body with means to fix a thermocouple, whereby the drive and the elongated hollow body are mounted such that they rotate jointly with the rotary kiln. The drive can move the elongated hollow body together with thermocouple through an opening in and out of the rotary kiln interior for measuring the temperature inside the rotary kiln during operation.

Method for operating an annealing furnace

A method for operating an annealing furnace to anneal a metal strip provides that, initially, at least one target material property (MP.sub.Target) is specified for a point or a section of the metal strip after passing through the annealing furnace. In addition, information (E) on the metal strip is provided before or in the annealing furnace. A calculation of a target temperature distribution (T.sub.Target) and/or a target speed (V.sub.Target) of the metal strip in the annealing furnace is then carried out with the assistance of a computer-aided model as a function of the target material properties and the specified information. The target temperature distribution and/or target speed calculated in this manner is/are subsequently set in the annealing furnace in order to transfer the material property of the metal strip behind the annealing furnace to the desired target material property MP.sub.Target.
