Firearms with combined bolt catch and ejector have a bolt defining a bolt face configured to receive a case head of a cartridge, a bolt catch connected to a frame and movable between a first operational position in which bolt reciprocation forward from the rear position is enabled, and a second restraining position in which a portion of the bolt catch restrains the bolt in the rear position, and the bolt catch having an ejector surface portion positioned clear of the bolt face when the bolt catch is in the first operational position and in registration with a portion of the bolt face when the bolt catch is in the second restraining position such that a case head received by the bolt face strikes the ejector surface portion upon movement of the bolt from the forward to the rearward position when the bolt catch is in the second restraining position.

Firearms with combined bolt catch and ejector have a bolt defining a bolt face configured to receive a case head of a cartridge, a bolt catch connected to a frame and movable between a first operational position in which bolt reciprocation forward from the rear position is enabled, and a second restraining position in which a portion of the bolt catch restrains the bolt in the rear position, and the bolt catch having an ejector surface portion positioned clear of the bolt face when the bolt catch is in the first operational position and in registration with a portion of the bolt face when the bolt catch is in the second restraining position such that a case head received by the bolt face strikes the ejector surface portion upon movement of the bolt from the forward to the rearward position when the bolt catch is in the second restraining position.

A method for operating a semi-automatic firearm as a single-shot firearm comprising: installing a hole in the firearm, wherein the bolt comprises a bolt lock safety device, wherein the bolt lock safety device extends beyond a face of the bolt when engaged preventing the firearm from automatically reloading; when the bolt lock safety device is engaged, pulling a charging handle back to cause the bolt to move rearward exposing the firearm chamber to reload a cartridge, wherein the adjustable bolt lock is simultaneously rotated by the lock pivot pin to lay flush with the bolt forcing the bolt back into forward position; and upon release of the charging handle, automatically reengaging the adjustable bolt lock via a lock return spring causing the adjustable bolt lock to extend beyond the face of the bolt.

A method for operating a semi-automatic firearm as a single-shot firearm comprising: installing a hole in the firearm, wherein the bolt comprises a bolt lock safety device, wherein the bolt lock safety device extends beyond a face of the bolt when engaged preventing the firearm from automatically reloading; when the bolt lock safety device is engaged, pulling a charging handle back to cause the bolt to move rearward exposing the firearm chamber to reload a cartridge, wherein the adjustable bolt lock is simultaneously rotated by the lock pivot pin to lay flush with the bolt forcing the bolt back into forward position; and upon release of the charging handle, automatically reengaging the adjustable bolt lock via a lock return spring causing the adjustable bolt lock to extend beyond the face of the bolt.

Firearms with ambidextrous bolt hold-open have a receiver defining a magazine well configured to receive an ammunition magazine having a follower that is spring biased toward an open end, the receiver defining a passage receiving a bolt assembly operable to reciprocate between a forward battery position and a rear retracted position, the bolt assembly being operable to strip a cartridge from the magazine upon movement from the rear retracted position to the forward battery position, a bolt latch movable between a latched position in which the bolt latch prevents movement of the bolt assembly from the retracted position to the battery position, and an unlatched position in which the bolt latch permits movement of the bolt assembly from the retracted position to the battery position, the bolt latch being responsive to the magazine having an elevated follower without ammunition to move to the latched position.

Firearms with ambidextrous bolt hold-open have a receiver defining a magazine well configured to receive an ammunition magazine having a follower that is spring biased toward an open end, the receiver defining a passage receiving a bolt assembly operable to reciprocate between a forward battery position and a rear retracted position, the bolt assembly being operable to strip a cartridge from the magazine upon movement from the rear retracted position to the forward battery position, a bolt latch movable between a latched position in which the bolt latch prevents movement of the bolt assembly from the retracted position to the battery position, and an unlatched position in which the bolt latch permits movement of the bolt assembly from the retracted position to the battery position, the bolt latch being responsive to the magazine having an elevated follower without ammunition to move to the latched position.

Magazine release apparatus and firearms including such magazine release apparatus are disclosed. An example bolt release for use with a firearm includes a first handle to protrude from a first side of the firearm and a second handle to protrude from a second side of the firearm. The first and second handles are integral. The first and second handles are to enable the bolt release to be operable from the first and second sides of the firearm. The bolt release includes a pivot axis adjacent the first side or the second side. The pivot axis is to enable the bolt release to be pivoted between a release position and a retained position. The bolt release to be biased toward the release position.

Magazine release apparatus and firearms including such magazine release apparatus are disclosed. An example bolt release for use with a firearm includes a first handle to protrude from a first side of the firearm and a second handle to protrude from a second side of the firearm. The first and second handles are integral. The first and second handles are to enable the bolt release to be operable from the first and second sides of the firearm. The bolt release includes a pivot axis adjacent the first side or the second side. The pivot axis is to enable the bolt release to be pivoted between a release position and a retained position.
