DUAL FIELD OPTICAL AIMING SYSTEM FOR PROJECTILE WEAPONS
20170321993 · 2017-11-09 ·

A system for aiming a projectile weapon includes a telescopic sight for use with a second sighting device, such as a reflex sight or other non-magnifying sight. The telescopic sight has an eye point spaced apart rearwardly from its eyepiece and positioned at a vertical plane containing a line of initial trajectory of the weapon to which the aiming system is mounted so that a line parallel to the line of initial trajectory does not intersect the eyepiece. The location of the eye point facilitates concurrent use of a second sighting device at a normal mounting height and viewable past the eyepiece, thereby allowing the viewer to change views between the telescopic sight and the second sighting device with little eye movement and essentially no head movement.

A reflex sight to sight a weapon, such as a firearm, comprises a frame carried by a base. The frame carries a mirror and an illumination source, such as an LED, spaced-apart and in a fixed relationship with respect to one another with the illumination source directed towards the mirror at a fixed orientation. A spindle is carried by the frame and disposed between the frame and the base about which an orientation of the frame with respect to the base is adjusted. The spindle has a vertical shaft extending between the base and the frame, with the frame capable of swiveling horizontally on the vertical shaft to adjust for azimuth. The spindle also has a horizontal axle extending between the vertical shaft and the frame, with the frame vertically pivotal on the horizontal axle to adjust for elevation.
